ORGANIC PLANET FEST IS FINALLY HERE! EUREKA, CALI AUGUST 30TH!
|
|
The Grammy-winning Del McCoury Band, hailed as the best
bluegrass band on the face of the Earth, will fittingly headline the
Organic Planet Festival's day of nonstop and spectacular music on the Eureka waterfront on Sunday, August 30.
Sharing the billing on the festival's diverse musical lineup will be international reggae star Tanya Stevens,
Humboldt's own poet songstress Lila Nelson, Oakland's multicultural
Latin fusion band LoCura and award-winning songwriter for kids, Peter
Alsop. Del McCoury, celebrating his 50th anniversary and capping a
nationwide tour, is joined by a virtuoso band that includes two of his
sons. His appearance will highlight the festival, California's only
celebration of natural, non-toxic living, now in its fifth year and
presented by the Eureka-based Californians for Alternatives to Toxics
(CATs).
The incredible music at Halvorson Park will accompany a full-morning of gardening workshops and
a keynote address by Mike McGrath, former editor of Organic Gardening
Magazine and host of the nationally syndicated radio show "You Bet Your
Garden." Also on tap during the celebration will be dozens of exhibits displaying natural and healthy products, a non-toxic kid's village, an eco-hip fashion show of designs made from organic materials, a drawing for a thousand dollars in groceries, great organic food and a food drive. What's more, visitors can enjoy partaking of the world's largest organic salad.
The activities go nonstop from 10:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and tickets are just $12 in advance or $15 at the gate.
Get
tickets at the Arcata and Eureka Coops, the Works in Arcata or Eureka,

JAMAICAN ATHLETES 'SHINE ON!'
|
|
Jamaican athletes are taking the World Games by storm and Cherine Anderson's song "SHINE ON JAMAICA" Serves as their Unofficial World Games Anthem. Jamaicans have been criticized for many things, but there are two great things the world now associates with this island gem, GREAT MUSIC and PHENOMENAL ATHLETES. Jamaicans all over the world unite in solidarity and pride as their talented athletes continue to run record breaking times and place Jamaica proudly on the pedestal for all the world to see.
SHINE ON JAMAICA is a song that speaks to the resilience of a nation plagued with challenges, but always finding a way to rise to the top. It's reflective of the determination and focus of our people and our athletes, many of whom come from very challenging living situations, but have kept focused on the prize and have worked to make themselves the STANDARD by which all athletes to come will be judged WORLDWIDE. SHINE ON JAMAICA, let no one hinder you. Produced by multi Grammy Award winning legendary duo Sly & Robbie and performed by Jamaica's own Cherine Anderson. LADY SHELLY : : Karamanti Mix - Volume 1 "resurrection"
|
|
LADY SHELLY RELEASES KARAMANTI MIX – VOLUME 1 “RESURRECTION” In an industry dominated predominantly by men, the few female artists in dancehall are usually very explicit with their lyrics and appearance. Very rare do you find a credible female dancehall artist whose’ music is not base solely on sex, money or men, but still manages to remain appealing to a hardcore dancehall massive. Lady Shelly, also known as karamanti has emerged as one such artist. Lady Shelly has been actively involved in reggae/dancehall for many years but has had to struggle every step of the way because of her refusal to compromise on her morals & beliefs. Lady Shelly’s repertoire does not preclude songs about sex, money and power but it is not dominated by these types of music. As a consequence, her climb in the dancehall industry has been a difficult one to say the lease. Having what she refers to as a karamanti spirit (refusing to give up), Lady Shelly has put together a compilation of her songs and has made it available for free download online. This is her way of avoiding the radio stations that will not play her music, the big producers that will not work with her and the record labels that will not sign her. She is choosing instead to speak directly with reggae/dancehall music lovers who are expecting more from women in reggae/dancehall. The project is titled karamanti mix –volume 1 “resurrection”. It has approximately 18 tracks, 10 of which are new recordings. It can be downloaded at the following sites free of charge. These sites are free from virus and are used frequently by everyone in the music industry: http://www.ladyshelly.com/

We see and hear so many negative things about our world each and everyday; no wonder so many feel hopeless, fearful and stressed out. Promises made are constantly broken - when will this end? Not sure, but what I do know is that the solution to make this world a better place lies within us. Each one taking responsibility for his/her own life, knowing that life is PRECIOUS and should be lived to the fullest. One way to do this is simply to "LOVE". Love is the catalyst that will make our world a better place for all of us. "I've got one LIFE, so let me live. I've got one love, that's what I'll give." WHEREVER PEOPLE SEEK THE HIGHEST IS HOLY GROUND
A Sioux Prayer Translated by Chief Yellow Lark - 1887 source: firstpeople.us
Oh, Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds Whose breath gives life to the world, hear me I come to you as one of your many children I am small and weak I need your strength and wisdom
May I walk in beauty Make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made And my ears sharp to your voice. Make me wise so that I may know the things you have taught your children.
The lessons you have written in every leaf and rock Make me strong--------! Not to be superior to my brothers, but to fight my greatest enemy....myself
Make me ever ready to come to you with straight eyes, So that when life fades as the fading sunset, May my spirit come to you without shame.
