CALIFORNIA REGGAE BAND SOUL MAJESTIC RELEASES “MEDICAL CONDITION” (215) -SUMMER ANTHEM FOR THE MEDICAL MARIJUANA MOVEMENT-

Lead singer Oriana Sanders cites medical marijuana as critical to her health and healing in recovery from Hodgkins Lymphom

Santa Barbara, CA – California Reggae band Soul Majestic releases the medical cannabis anthem of the summer, “Medical Condition (215).”

(http://www.youtube.com/soulmajestic)  With government authorities cracking down on medical marijuana dispensaries across the country, this timely tune makes light of a serious issue: safe and legal access medical marijuana for those who need it most.

The video weaves its way through a day in the life of a patient seeking to fill his medical marijuana prescription.  From the sexy doctor to the DEA, from the gang bangers to the dispensary itself, the video casts a humorous light on a white hot national issue.   Proposition 215 was passed by California voters in 2001 legally permitting doctors to prescribe medical marijuana to qualified patients.

The song and video is grounded in reality for Soul Majestic lead singer Oriana Sanders who utilized medical marijuana as critical healing tool in her recovery from Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer in 2007.

Co-lead singer Eric Iverson said, “The issue of safe and secure access to medical marijuana is an important issue for us personally.  Within our family, within our community and across the country, cannabis plays an important role to help the suffering and sick.  We believe this video, while tongue in cheek in its approach, shines a bright light onto medical cannabis.”

“Medical Condition (215)” and the dub version are both available for purchase on iTunes.

“Medical Condition (215)” video was directed and produced by Tim Cash and Far From Earth Films (www.ffefilms.com).

ENTERTAINMENT FANTASTIC FESTIVAL BUT... SAYS SUMFEST ORGANISERS
Summerfest Productions director, Johnny Gourzong, has mixed feelings about this year's staging of Reggae Sumfest. While he was upbeat about the production, the performances, the music and the input from sponsors, he lamented the challenges of staging the festival inside the muddy, rain-soaked, Catherine Hall venue in Montego Bay.

"The music was fantastic; the performances were great, the production was excellent and the sponsors all came together to make the festival possible," he told the Observer yesterday. "The turnout was not as good as we had anticipated, but we know that the rain played a huge role in that. But it could have been a lot worse," he said philosophically.

GOURZONG... made a call for a stateof- the-art complex for western Jamaica which can house not just Reggae Sumfest, but other concerts and entertainment events
1/1
Gourzong, however, has made it clear that he is not pleased with the conditions at the Catherine Hall complex which is owned and operated by the Urban Development Corporation (UDC). The rain which has been fallin for the past two weeks in Mo Bay and on the days of the festival turned the venue into a mud bowl, which made it uncomfortable for patrons.

"That area which houses the complex is actually reclaimed swamp land and apparently the moats which should serve as drains are not functioning as they should. So with water apparently coming from below mixed with the constant rain, it was a challenge to get the venue up to an acceptable state. I want to apologise to patrons and thank them for supporting the festival," Gourzong stated.
He made a call for a state-of-the-art complex for western Jamaica which can house not just Reggae Sumfest, but other concerts and entertainment events.

EARTHDANCE 2010 THE UNITED BEATS OF PEACE FESTIVAL “FAREWELL BLACK OAK RANCH” HWY 101, LAYTONVILLE, CALIFORNIA SEPT 17TH, 18TH, 19TH.
The 14th annual Earthdance Festival will take place at the renowned Black Oak Ranch, a property rich in native history and old growth oak trees. The ranch has been home to Earthdance for the past 8 years, but due to expanding audiences, the festival will be moving to a larger facility for 2011.  Often described as a festival that combines the artistic liberation of Burning Man with the socially responsible conscience of the Oregon Country Fair, the festival has gained international recognition as one of the best “boutique” festivals on the west coast of the USA, with sell out shows each year.

For 2010, Earthdance Northern California will unite with over 350 locations in 60 countries across the world to create the most conscious global festival of our time. To make this year a “grand farewell” to remember, the festival will present an incredible line up of conscious musicians, visual artists, DJ's, speakers and activists, who believe in a sustainable future for our planet.  Working with the theme of “unity in diversity”, the festival will host 5 music stages and will feature high profile conscious artists from many genres of the international music scene, including World, Electronica, Hip Hop, Folk and Jazz.  Also included will be an indigenous elder’s council, made up of indigenous elders from many nations, who will share wisdom and sacred ceremony.

An important part of the festival will be a compelling educational component called the “Activist Alley”, where festival patrons can interact with both local and international non-profit groups. These organizations will share information and workshops on relevant global and local issues, inspiring local participants to take a stand for the future of our planet.

A highlight of the festival will be a synchronized global link up, taking place on Saturday the 18th, when at 4pm (PST), Earthdance California will synchronize with over 350 locations in 60 countries. At this precise moment, a specially created song called the “prayer for peace” will be played in every location at the same time.  The festival will also feature a wide variety of ‘Healthy’ vendors supplying many types of international foods and eco wares. Shaded camping and HOT showers are also available to festival attendees.

Part proceeds from the festival will be donated to the Earthdance non-profit, A California based 501c3 organization.

RICHIE SPICE – TOURING NORTH AMERICA AND CANADA - SEPTEMBER 2010
Richie Spice is now confirming shows for his western U.S. tour this September 2010. He recently finished a five week tour in Europe. His U.S. tour last September was a great success, consistently stirring up excitement and large crowds. There was a lot of interest and enthusiasm up and down. This year we hope for increased success since he delivered so well last year and he has so many hit songs playing out there.

Prior to the current tour, Richie Spice also did a two week European tour in March 2010. Over the years Richie has been consistently touring and performing in Europe. He is very popular there. He and his crew also recently finished touring Australia, and they are now one year into a two year plan to tour the entire Caribbean. They have a lot of new singles and combinations out, and the new CD is slated for release this summer.

Richie Spice is currently one of the hottest commodities worldwide in cultural reggae music, moving with a positive message and a full, strong entourage. Earth a Run Red, Richie Spice’s biggest hit, dominated the airwaves in a positive and conscious manner for many years. People are enthusiastic to hear this and his numerous other hits live. Richie Spice is a top new breed reggae artist and on this tour he will be moving with some of the finest musicians out of Jamaica.

In the Old Testament’s Book of Judges, Gideon led Israel to victory over the Midianites, who dwelled in the southeastern part of Palestine, with a small army equipped with only trumpets, lit torches and jars to conceal the torches’ flames. Following Gideon’s instructions, his three hundred soldiers blew their trumpets and smashed their jars as they shouted “a sword for the Lord, a sword for Gideon”. With that, the tens of thousands of Midianite troops fled in fear.

Armed with just a microphone, one-drop rhythms and purifying lyrical flames, singer Richie Spice is the Gideon of contemporary reggae. The publicly declared “prince of fire” uses culturally uplifting, spiritually fortified words to defeat the negative content that informs much of popular (Jamaican) music. Fittingly, Gideon Boot is the title track of Spice’s brilliant fourth album. Recorded over the timeless Johnny Too Bad rhythm (taken from The Slickers 1970s hit of the same name, popularized in the film The Harder They Come) the song details Spice’s strategic plan for delivering his musical sermon to an awaiting global audience. “I need a Gideon boot and a khaki suit to stand out inna Babylon and defend the truth/ I got a strong reggae beat with a mic in my hand fe lead out de youth dem outta destruction and let de people know right from wrong.”

Just like the singer’s previous albums “Universal”, “Spice In Your Life” and “In The
Streets to Africa”
, “Gideon Boot” contains inspiring messages specifically aimed at empowering vulnerable youth. Spice confidently juxtaposes his songs of valor with unity themes (“Living In Love”, “Getting Harder”) and the importance of staying focused - “Make Up Your Mind”, “Hang On In There”. Spice’s flawless vocals effortlessly scale the high notes then smoothly segue into scatted improvisations as he weaves intricate, evocative melodies throughout this exquisite 15-track set that is certain to carry his name to un chartered territories for Jamaican music.

The traditional Rastafarian Nyabinghi drumming that dominates the opening cut “Babylon Falling” heralds the seriousness of Spice’s musical mission. “World Is A Cycle”, sung over producer Arif Cooper’s haunting “Guardian Angel” rhythm, is, as Spice explains, “a song for the children and for the parents saying be careful because what you do can fall right back on you and your kids.”

Also included is the current Jamaican hit “The Plane Land” which display’s Spice’s superb story telling skills. The song’s lyrics detail the frustration that oftentimes accompanies post 9/11travel. “Saddle up myself fe take interrogation…tek off mi shoes, tek off mi tam, if they ever find you with a spliff yu gone another land.” “It is a song everyone can relate to if they travel,” notes Spice, “and if they don’t travel, they will learn this is what we go through as entertainers as we go to other countries.”

Since 2004, when his apocalyptic single “Earth A Run Red” became the year’s most popular reggae song, Richie Spice has performed throughout the world, insuring that cultural roots reggae isn’t relegated to a bygone era but continues as a thriving, evolving musical genre.

Born Richell Bonner in the Kingston, Jamaica suburb of St. Andrew, Richie Spice hails from a musical family that includes his older brother Pliers (from the deejay/singer duo Chaka Demus and Pliers of “Murder She Wrote” fame), singer Spanner Banner and deejay Snatcher Dogg. It was Spanner Banner, (best known for his mid 90s hit “Life Goes On”) who first brought Spice to the recording studio; the hopeful singer, admittedly, couldn’t manage the rigors of professional recording but the opportunity opened his eyes to the proficiency required to succeed in the reggae industry. “That experience show me that to reach anywhere there is a lot of work to be done,” Spice reflects.

Spice continued working towards gaining a foothold in the music industry and shortly thereafter he met veteran producer Clive Hunt who produced his breakthrough single, the engaging lovers rock tune “Grooving My Girl”, still one of the most popular songs in Spice’s repertoire. “Grooving” was initially featured on Spice’s 2000 debut album “Universal”, as was the song that would make him a household name in Jamaica, “Earth A Run Red”.

Since 2004 Spice has become one of reggae’s most in demand talents and the recipient of numerous awards and accolades. He received the Most Cultural Artist Award at the 13th annual South Florida Reggae Soca Awards in 2005; he was voted the Male Singer/Singjay of the Year at Jamaica’s IRIE FM Awards in 2007 and following his performance at the first annual “Black My Story” concert held in Kingston on Feb. 2, 2008 Spice was honored for his positive musical contributions. His 2004 album “Spice in Your Life” was listed among the year’s best reggae releases by the New York Times; “In the Streets To Africa”, released in 2007, reached number 6 on the Billboard Reggae chart and one of the album’s biggest hits “Youth Dem Cold” peaked at number 59 on the Billboard Top 100 Singles Chart and ranked at number 29 on Vibe Magazine’s Best 44 songs of 2007. Now with the release of “Gideon Boot” even greater recognition is assured for Spice’s talent, as is the expansion of his international fan base.

“I’ve always had a wide meditation of having my music go out there to the world because I know it can go far,” says Spice. “But it is very hard singing of righteousness in the world. When you sing of good you will find that evil rise up and try to dominate good. But I will continue the fight, go out there and have people hear what I am saying.”

THOMPKINS MARKETING & PROTÉGÉ PR ANNOUNCE THE JR. PINCHERS
Thompkins Marketing & Protégé PR announce the Jr. Pinchers

Hit single “Back Broke” promotion and publicity

Houston, TX, July 23, 2010:  Thompkins Marketing and Protégé PR are proud to announce their latest project with the Jr. Pinchers and their hit single “Back Broke” from SloppiShizzle Records.  Thompkins Marketing will be providing marketing and promotions for the single ‘Back Broke”. Protégé PR will serve as the publicist and social media consultant.

Jr. Pinchers the Reggae sing song artist who has transformed his style into an aggressive "sing song rapping style" that could be compared only to the likes of the current chart topping buzz maker, Drake. The same Jr. Pinchers who defied the dance hall charts in Jamaica by "sing song rapping" his 1st single, Back Broke, the jazz inspired electronic single vs. dropping another soft love song aimed at the ladies he so loves and has always catered to.

Kemar Thompson, more popularly known as Jr. Pinchers, was born in Rock Hall, Jamaica. Pinchers became heavily involved with his church choir and by age seven he joined his legendary father, Delroy Thompson, also known as “Pinchers”. Being the son of a reggae icon did not stop Thompson from growing his own voice.

In 1997, “Blaze up the Fire”, was the first material from Jr. Pinchers that was released by Royal Concert productions. The Album included hits like “Unfaithful Lover”, which was on Richi B’s chart in Jamaica and the most requested single on Irie FM in 2007.

The new style of Jr. Pinchers’ music found a new foundation at SloppiShizzle Records. In a chance meeting with the Twinz Beatz at the “Slop Shop” studios in Miami, home to the label. Jr. Pinchers heard a strange new sound he had never heard before and Jr. Pinchers found himself in the studio working with the Twinz Beatz.

The collaboration led the top ten charting single “Back Broke”, on the Jamaican “Dancehall Charts. Blasting daily on stations like IrieFM (the more traditional Reggae station), Zip FM (the youthful station that mixes all genres of music), and 19 other radio stations on the Island. The Back Broke video has been added to MTV Latin America -(Central,South America & Mexico) airing on the network’s MTV Hits program in late Feb.-10., XYZMP3 / TIVO – DVD (National), California Music Channel - Beta (CA), Power Play -(National / 42 Outlets), VidDream -(DE, PA, MD, NJ), EVision –, Billboard DJ (Studio City, CA), Discogs-Rock America Video pool, SPC-TV (Carbondale, IL), VME Media -9:30 Club -(Washington DC), Class A TV -(Hartford, CT), The Groove Zone –(Denver, CO), MYX –(Redwood City, CA), Video Hits -(Rochester, NY), VideoVisions -(Maple Heights, OH),W.T.R. Video Show (Cleveland, OH), AOL Video (UK), Singingfool.com,Allmusic.com. The song is being added daily to dance stations, Urban stations, & AC stationsequally. He currently has “Back Broke” in rotation on stations like Island Mix (Z101FM)-TORONTO, SATURDAY NIGHT MIX (Z101FM)-TORONTO, CROWN JEWELS RADIO-NIAGRA FALLS, WEDR 99.1FM- MIAMI, KSVY91.3-SONOMA-CA, CFXJ93.5 FM-TORONTOHOT 102FM-JAMAICA, IRIEFM 107.3-JAMAICA, ZIPFM-JAMAICA, LINKZ FM 96.5-JAMAICA, Jango-internet, Pandora-internet, Imeem-internet (now Myspace Music), Fwix-Santa Barbara, CA, WERS 88.9-Boston, MA (Broadcast 24/7 on ITunes).

Ernest Ranglin best known for his session work at the famed Studio One, helped give birth to the ska genre in the late 1950s. Some credit Ranglin with the invention of the core style of guitar play (sometimes known as "scratching") found in nearly all ska music.

Ranglin played on many classic Jamaican recordings, and he performed with artists such as Jimmy Cliff, Monty Alexander, Prince Buster, The Skatalites and the Eric Deans Orchestra. He has also explored other styles of music, notably blending jazz and reggae.

As child, Ranglin had two uncles who played guitar and ukulele. After watching them play, he practiced on their instruments, and stood in for one of them when they failed to turn up for a recording session, impressing his other uncle so much that he was given the instrument for his seventh birthday. He built his own guitar using a sardine can and wires, before progressing to a real one. He moved with his family to Kingston, where he was educated at Providence, Kingston Senior School, and Bodin College.  While still in his teens, he began performing live, locally and in the Bahamas, often with the young Monty Alexander. Charlie Christian was an early influence. Aged 15, he joined the Val Bennett band, and went on to play with the Eric Deans band and Count Boysie.

By the early 1950s, Ranglin had become a proficient jazz guitarist and toured overseas. In 1958, Chris Blackwell recorded a Ranglin single, which was one of the first releases on Blackwell's R&B label, and a live album split between Ranglin and Lance Haywood was the first to be released by Blackwell. Around 1959, he joined Cluett Johnson's band the Blues Blasters, recording several tracks for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One, including "Shuffling Jug", regarded as one of the first ska recordings. In 1962, the James Bond film Dr. No was filmed in Jamaica. While Byron Lee & the Dragonaires appeared in the film, the soundtrack recordings were actually made by Ranglin.

In 1964, Ranglin played guitar on singer Millie Small 's "My Boy Lollipop ", the first Jamaican song to achieve international success.

Ranglin recorded two jazz albums in the mid-1960s for the Merritone label - Wranglin (1964) and Reflections (1965), also working for Duke Reid as a musical director at the Treasure Isle recording studio during this period.

He began attracting international notice in 1964 when he traveled to London, England to perform at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. He became the venue's resident guitarist for nine months, backing numerous guest artists and appearing in a recording of a Sonny /Dick Morrissey jam session in 1966.

He made several solo records for Island Records, as well as collaborating with Prince Buster. He returned to session work, arranging songs such as the Melodians ' "Rivers of Babylon" and playing guitar leads in the Wailers' "It Hurts to Be Alone".

During the late 1960s and the 1970s, Ranglin was much in demand as a studio musician and arranger, working with top Jamaican producers such as Dodd, Lee "Scratch" Perry, and Clancy Eccles and toured with Jimmy Cliff  in the 1970s.

In the late 70s, he re-teamed with his friend Monty Alexander to record Latin-Caribbean infused jazz for Pablo Records.

In 1973 he was awarded the Order of Distinction from the Jamaican Government for his contributions to music.

He moved to Florida in the late 1970s, where he performed at jazz festivals and continued to record occasionally.

He signed to Chris Blackwell's newly formed Palm Pictures label to issue 1998's In Search of the Lost Riddim.

The albums E.B. @ Noon and Modern Answers to Old Problems followed two years later. Grooving was released in early 2001. In 2002, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the University of the West Indies for his outstanding contribution to the development of music in Jamaica.

In 2006, he was the subject of a documentary covering his career - Roots Of Reggae: The Ernest Ranglin Story, produced and written by Arthur Gorson.

In 2008, he was inducted into the Jamaican Music hall of Fame by the Jamaica Association of Vintage Artistes and Affiliates (JAVAA).

SUBJECT:  NEW RELEASE and the name of the artist

Mixed Culture : : 'Mourning Chant'
Name of CD/Album 'Pensando Reggae'

'Pensando Reggae' is the debut cd release from the new, young group called Mixed Culture. The band is of a latin background except Eddie Culture is from the Cape Verde Islands, just off the coast of Senegal. So the album 'Pensando Reggae' means thinking about reggae which is what the band thinks about all the time. 'Pensando Reggae' also has several reggae songs in Spanish to show their culture and latin heritage. The band plays heavy roots reggae; their music is slow tempos, think Big Mountain(the roots and latin side) meets Midnite. Cisco, the lead singer, loves Garnett Silk and you can hear it especially in "Sudamerica," which is the melody from Garnett Silk's "Mama Africa." It's a tribute to their homelands in South America: Peru, Colombia and Uruguay. The rest of the album is about love, injustice, peace, equal rights and righteousness. These kids will surprise you, thats the drum and bass section, 18 years old. If you see them, they will surprise you again. We hope you get to do both: see and hear them. This is roots reggae music.

The online store is linked to from the website www.alrica.net and offers Alrica's CDs, music downloads and merchandise.

Alrica's vocal style is a unique blend of rich soul and reggae fused with jazz and hip hop. Her debut CD, an EP entitled This Time Round generated excitement from fans and music connoisseurs worldwide. Audiences were impressed with her ability to transition smoothly from the soulful sounds of tracks such as Just one Time to more dance floor ready tracks such as Move. I'd have to say that my strength is my versatility. When people hear me sing, they have no idea what else can come from me; Alrica responded when asked about her biggest strength in a video interview published on YouTube.

Alrica is finally ready to fill in the gaps and share the stories that her fans had not been privy to in her debut release. Her sophomore release, This Time Round-The Untold Stories includes all of the best tracks from her debut album as well as seven new songs. Infidelity, broken hearts and economic suffering, only begin to scratch the surface of the subject matter Alrica shares with her audience. Music critics who have had the opportunity to preview the album are particularly impressed with the strong emotional connection Alrica continually exudes in her delivery.

The single “I Feel Good” from A MOMENT IN TIME has remained in the Top 5 on reggae charts since the release. Hammond can also be found on the summer’s must-have reggae compilation REGGAE GOLD 2010, along with other chart toppers as Damian Marley and Nas, Shaggy, Etana and Gyptian. KAYA
Wake up and turn me loose
For the rain is falling

Got to have kaya now
For the rain is falling

I'm so high, I even touch the sky
Above the falling rain
I feel so good in my neighborhood, so
Here I come again

Got to have kaya now
For the rain is falling

Feelin' irie I
Cause I have some kaya now

I feel so high, I even touch the sky
Above the falling rain
I feel so good in my neighborhood, so
Here I come again

Got to have kaya now
Got to have kaya now
Got to have kaya now, Lord
For the rain is falling

(Kaya now, kaya, kaya) Huh
