Scott Ellison : Walkin' Through The Fire |
|
Tulsa, Oklahoma singer, songwriter and guitarist Scott Ellison gained his street cred via his rich Southwestern heritage and the inspiration of Motown and Memphis. A stint playing with Gatemouth Brown, a beloved mentor, years of leading his own band and having many of his songs featured in the movies and on TV has provided him with an enviable resume as do eight critically-lauded solo albums that attest to his burgeoning creative energy.
Walkin’ Through the Fire is his bust-out effort with 15 dazzling originals penned by him along with either Charles Tuberville or Walt Richmond (Eric Clapton's keyboard player). He plays lead,
rhythm and slide guitars and bass backed by Tuberville (guitar, bass, background vocals), Richmond (producer, engineer, keyboards, drums), Spenser Sutton (piano, Hammond B-3), Jalon Brown (drums, percussion) and the Hot Tamale Horns. “

Debbie Bond: Hearts Are Wild |
|
Singer, guitar player and songwriter Debbie Bond has been paying her dues in the Alabama backwoods for over 30 years.
Her singing is often described as a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Janice Joplin, both of whom she cites as big influences on her music. The truth is that Debbie does it her way, playing a dynamic mix of house-rockin’ covers and searing originals. Her impressive musical story includes years of performing with older traditional Alabama blues musicians, including Johnny Shines, Eddie Kirkland and Willie King.
Her immersion in the blues has deeply flavored her guitar playing, soulful voice and original song writing, yet her sound is contemporary and original, incorporating soul, blues, rock, jazz and even country influences. This unique musical synthesis can be heard on her latest album, 2011's Hearts Are Wild.
She was the co-founder and executive director of the award-winning Alabama Blues Project, an educational non-profit devoted to preserving and promoting Alabama's rich blues heritage.

Lisa Mills : Tempered In Fire |
|
It’s a long way from south Mississippi, where she was born, to Glastonbury, in southwestern England. But Lisa Mills has played Glastonbury and
many more European festivals enough to feel comfortable on both sides of the Atlantic. In fact, the artistic connections she formed as she gained international fans are counted as her musical next-of-kin; they just happen to be in the UK, while she now makes her home on Mobile Bay.
Recording her latest album, Tempered in Fire, at Rimshot Studios in Kent was a celebration of creative connections reaching near and afar. She chose songs by writers from her native South as well as Britain to complement her own songs and teamed with old and new musician friends from England and the U.S. Joining her in the vintage analogue studio—and laying down several of the songs as a live band—were her long-time performing partner, Ian Jennings.
Tempered in Fire was her second album collaboration with Jennings, who co-produced her 2005 I’m Changing.

Terry Evans Now Booking For 2012 |
His musical journey began in Vicksburg, Mississippi, in the heart of the Delta, where he was born. He was in the church choir as a young person and used to sing tenor, baritone and bass. He jokes that he wasn't allowed to sing the "rough stuff" like rock and roll in those days and that he was only allowed to sing gospel. He'd have to "slip away" to sing secular songs.
In the sixties, Terry worked with an a cappella group called The Knights, touring throughout the South in clubs and juke joints. From there Terry was lured to the west coast where he first picked up the guitar, started writing music and soon became a prolific songwriter. Pops Staples as well as the late, great Louis Jordan (among others) have recorded his songs.
Long before Terry made his first recording fronting his own band, music fans were probably well acquainted with his amazing voice. For years, the soulful singer was one of Los Angeles' foremost session vocalists, receiving a gold record for his work on John Fogarty's "Eye of the Zombie" and recording with Ry Cooder, Joan Armatrading, John Lee Hooker, Boz Scaggs, Maria Muldaur, Pops Staples, and many other well respected artists. Most recently Terry can be heard on Eric Clapton’s CD, “Clapton,” and Ry Cooder’s album “Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down.”
In addition to his work with other artists, Terry recorded two albums with Bobby King, as well as ten of his own. Terry is one of the most dynamic soul and blues singers performing today, writing and singing about all aspects of human emotion, and creating a connection with his audience in the process.
Terry tours the U.S. and Europe music festivals regularly, with plenty of club dates in between. Visit www.terryevansmusic.com for his latest itinerary.
Terry’s latest CD, “Anthology” is now available online or as a download at cdbaby.com/cd/terryevans.

BLUES AT THE BORDER-JAMES ARMSTRONG-CATFOOD RECORDS |
James Armstrong has released his first album in 11 years on Catfood Records. He has been described by one music writer as "an artist in a world of craftsmen, harking back to a time when each bluesman had a distinctive musical voice." Known as the Ambassador of Blues for his constant touring internationally as well as in the U.S., James manages to honor the sound of traditional blues, while giving it the contemporary feel of a modern groove.
Blues At The Border was recorded in New York and Texas with top studio musicians. Drawing on his deep blues roots, James also displays his rock, country and soul influences as well. He is a master of the slide guitar and a first- rate singer who knows how to deliver a song.
His earlier releases on HighTone Records resulted in several of the songs being used on movie and television soundtracks. With years to prepare, James has chosen great songs to create the best recording of his career.

Bluesman Otis Taylor's 'Contraband' Due Feb. 14
The 14-track album was recorded before and after major surgery to remove a cyst that had connected to his liver and spine and the blues master is once again telling deeply personal, provocative stories that have long been the heart of his songwriting.
Songs on the album again tell tales of love, loss, injustice, inequality, and war but Taylor doesn't consider his music an act of activism, but of art.
"I'm not really a protest singer or even a very political person," he said. "I just try to tell an interesting story."
Contraband is again built on a foundation of traditional blues sounds, styles, and structures and the unusual rhythmic and instrumental sounds that have become the hallmark of Taylor's sound. He is joined by Ron Miles on cornet, Chuck Campbell on pedal steel, Guinean master drummer Fara Tolno and djembe, his daughter Cassie and Todd Edmunds share bass dutie, Brian Juan plays organ, Larry Thompson adds drums, and Jon Paul Johnson additional guitar.

Congratulations on the name change, and the increased influence of Blues all around the wonderful state of Minnesota.

You can also help by taking part in the Silent Auction event either by donating items for auction, bidding on items in the auction or both. To donate auction items contact Grant Wibben,innocentsons@gmail.com or call 612-616-2233. All auction items and cash donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
