Debbie Davies :  AFTER THE FALL

After The Fall (MC-0069) is Debbie Davies' 11th solo recording and is an all-original affair with Debbie writing or co-writing six of the 11 songs. In 2010, Debbie lost her dear friend, blues musician Robin Rogers and later that year Debbie broke her arm. As she began to heal, she started writing and putting many of her experiences and feelings into songs. The result is 2012's, After The Fall.

In her amazing career Debbie has received 10 nominations for Blues Music Awards, and in 1997 and 2010 won the award for Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist. Debbie has recorded and performed with such blues luminaries as John Mayall, Albert Collins, Tab Benoit, Kenny Neal, Ike Turner, James Cotton, Mick Taylor, Peter Green, Coco Montoya, Duke Robillard, Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Charlie Musselwhite.

I don't often give endorsements or references, but once in a rare while I hear a musician of such talent that I want people to know. I believe my reputation backs up my ability to recognize exceptional blues guitarists. Such a one is Debbie Davies. Hear her now. - JOHN MAYALL

HERITAGE MUSIC BLUESFEST FEATURES AWARD WINNING BLUES

WHEELING - Heritage Music BluesFest 2012 is set to begin Aug. 10, in Wheeling, West Virginia again featuring national blues artists on the Main Stage and local and regional artists on the Second Stage for a weekend of continuous award-winning blues.

Five-time Grammy winner and 15-time Grammy nominee, legendary guitar icon Robert Cray, will be featured on the opening night of the festival this year at the Heritage Port Amphitheater on the bank of the Ohio River.

Closing the festival on Aug. 12 will be blues rockers, The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band. "Kenny is one of the few artists whose name is synonymous with one instrument and how it's played in service to an entire genre. The hard-rocking, blues-based, guitar-driven band sounds young, it sounds fresh. Yet it has that distinctive energy and vibe drawn from the deep heritage of the blues," said Bruce Wheeler, festival producer.

"The response has been terrific with Robert Cray and Kenny Wayne Shepherd appearing this year, but the entire 2012 lineup is generating great comments on Facebook and other social media," Wheeler said.

Also performing Friday Aug 10 will be Blues Music Award winners and nominees Southern Hospitality, Peter Karp and Sue Foley, and the Del Grosso/Del Toro Richardson Band, who will kick off the Heritage Music BluesFest with the high quality music festival fans have come to expect.

On Saturday, Aug. 11, Blues Hall of Famer Lonnie Brooks and his two sons, Ronnie and Wayne Baker Brooks, will be performing as the Brooks Family Blues Dynasty. Also appearing on Saturday will be Nick Moss, Deanna Bogart, Homemade Jamz' Blues Band, Samuel James and Tee Dee Young.

Sunday's lineup will feature Hadden Sayers, the Joe Krown Trio with Walter "Wolfman" Washington and Russell Batiste, the Sean Carney Band featuring Omar Coleman, Eugene Hideaway Bridges, Trampled Under Foot and The Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band.

For information, on the festival or any of the artists, visit the BluesFest website www.heritagemusicfest.com.

CELEBRATE THE PRAIRIE DOG BLUES FESTIVAL'S 15TH BIRTHDAY !

     July 27 & 28 ~  2 DAYS  ~  2 STAGES  ~  12 BANDS

St. Feriole Island in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin

Trampled Under Foot          ~          JJ Grey & Mofro

We're celebrating our year 15 for the Prairie Dog Blues Festival. We've packed it again with a star-studded line-up. Bands like Trampled Under Foot (possibly the most in-demand blues band out there), Rick Estrin & The Night Cats (the epitomy of a classy blues show band), and Indigenous (when have you seen them lately?). Mato, lead guitar & vocal, when not performing with Indigenous is touring with the Hendrix Experience! Now that is just some of the highlights for Friday! Saturday you've got your world flavor with Harper, Shemekia Copeland (just coming off her performance at The White House), and one of the most soulful awesome singer-songwriters out there, JJ Grey & Mofro. We've also tossed in a couple of newcomers that again you can say, "I first saw them at The Prairie Dog & they "blue" the roof off the stage!" We're not even going to mention who to watch out for because you'll figure it out real quick! Just check out the videos on our website www.prairiedogblues.com.

Blues and Roots music from Chicago Blues to West Coast Jump, hard-driving Mississippi Hill Country Blues, New Orleans horns and Texas Boogie, Zydeco, Gospel, Blues Rock – We’ve got it all!

The Prairie Dog Blues Festival is held every year on historic St. Feriole Island, right on the Mississippi River, nestled between jagged cliffs and green hills untouched by the Ice Age... one of the most beautiful venues anywhere. The Prairie Dog is one of the most laid-back blues festivals out there! It is located on St. Feriole Island in a beautiful city park right on the Mississippi River. Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin founded in the late 1600's has a ton of history. Wisconsin's most toured historical site, The Villa Louis (a stunning, fully restored Victorian mansion), is located on the island next to the fest grounds.

There are some hard choices to be made at The Prairie Dog! You can either get up out of your chair, stretch and walk a few yards to the beer tent or you can have one of these lovely ladies bring your drink to you! Decisions, decisions!

Camp right on site with your friends and meet new friends! Typical walk from your site to the gate of the festival is 200-300 yards. Food and drink as well as campfires, singing, playing music and telling stories is strongly encouraged. The festival is a one block walk off The Island and you are downtown surrounded by family owned pubs, restaurants and small retail stores. If staying in a motel is more your style, blues fest shuttles will get you to the fest in a 5 minute drive or less!

Tickets and camping are available by calling 1-888-567-1567 or online at www.prairiedogblues.com. Information on accommodations can be found at www.prairieduchien.org or by calling 800-732-1673.

Visit our website for a chance to win free tickets to the Fest!

BAY AREA BLUES SOCIETY'S HAYWARD RUSSELL CITY BLUES FEST

Hayward Russell City Blues Fest promoters Paula and Ronnie Stewart of the Bay Area Blues Society do it right! The festival was held July 7-8, 2012 and this year and they had two stages.

This is one of the most "user friendly" festivals. The host hotel, The Hampton Inn, provides you a great festival rate and the promoters throw in tickets to the event if you stay at the hotel. The festival is located down the street from the hotel and covered free parking is available right next to the festival. There is quite a bit of shade if you get there early and good food vendors. There is no backstage and the performers mingle with the fans in a relaxed setting.

Ronnie Stewart   ~   Wingnut Adams and Grady Champion jam

You're always guaranteed to see a number of incredible musicians performing at the festival including the Bay Area Caravan of Allstars. Ronnie Stewart always throws in surprises from around the country too.

Marquise Knox   ~   Artwork Jamul

This year Grady Champion, harp player, singer and former IBC winner from Mississippi, won over the crowd. Wingnut Adams from Northern California proved to be a seasoned harp player also and the combo was a treat. Marquise Knox, a twenty one year old guitar player from St. Louis, MO, really lit up the stage with his vocals and guitar.

This is definitely a festival to put on the calendar. Make any lodging reservations months ahead since they can run out of rooms.

See ya on the blues highway,

Cheryl and Tom Yearnshaw
