Jim Byrnes : I HEAR THE WIND IN THE WIRES |
|
“There’s nothing more powerful than a good song and nobody knows that better than Jim Byrnes does.” (Doug Heselgrave)
Jim Byrnes is known as one of Canada’s foremost Blues artists. He has been performing internationally for over 35 years. Aside from his music, Jim is well known for his nationally broadcast variety show The Jim Byrnes Show and for his starring roles in Wiseguy and Highlander.
I Hear The Wind In The Wires is a follow up to his Juno award winning blues album, Everywhere West.
I Hear The Wind In The Wires ventures into the world of classic 1960’s inspired country, including songs by Buck Owens, Hank Snow, Dolly Parton and many more country classics, while maintaining a strong sense of Jim’s earliest roots and blues influences.
Recorded live off the floor with Juno award winning producer Steve Dawson in Vancouver, B.C.
“Let the songs on I Hear The Wind In The Wires knock the frown off your face, pick you up and dust you off before sending you out - six guns smoking – to go looking for love in all the wrong places.” (Doug Heselgrave)

Expanding upon the premise of his two earlier blues-rock albums, Time’s A’ Wastin’ (2007) and All Wound Up (2008) Detonation, incorporates a more rock-oriented approach while still remaining true to his blues roots.
Detonation, produced by David Z, is a 12-song exploration of Fields’ genre-defying style and electrifying guitar prowess. Featuring the vocal and guitar duet (“Doing Hard Time”) with Grammy and Blues Music Award winner Joe Louis Walker, Delmar Brown (“Bad Hair Day”) added to his regular band of bassist Andy Huenerberg, keyboardist Vladimir Barsky and drummer Kenny Soule. Fields traverses a road that transcends into rock-blues for the 22nd Century.
Fields musical journey has carried this New York guitar virtuoso to locales as diverse as Norway and Moscow. “It’s so amazing to be able to connect with people from other countries who grew up listening to American music” he says. “To see them respond to you and connect with you, and to realize how much we have in common. It doesn’t matter where you’re from. We’re all human beings.”
“Life is like a circle,” Fields’ concludes. “It just goes around like water that flows in a circle between everybody.”

Mitch Woods BLUES BEYOND BORDERS: LIVE IN ISTANBUL |
Boogie Woogie piano master Mitch Woods announces an October 30 release date for his new CD/DVD set, Blues Beyond Borders: Live in Istanbul. The new CD/DVD was recorded in the fall of 2010 at the Efes Blues Festival in the Republic of Turkey.
The two-disc specially-priced set includes both a CD and DVD of the performances, with the video including insightful extras of the band’s adventures on the road, a travelogue of Turkey, impressions of the Turkish culture and the group’s experiences as “blues ambassadors” around the world. Joining Mitch Woods (piano, vocals) are His Rocket 88s: New Orleans all-stars Amadee Castenell (sax/background vocals) and Cornell Williams (bass,/vocals), as well as Adam Gabriel (guitar/background vocals) and Larry Vann (drums).
Blues Beyond Borders: Live in Istanbul features a number of favorites that display Mitch’s amazing versatility on the piano, covering jump blues, rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm and blues and his personal favorite salute to the sounds of New Orleans music in all its flavors. A special highlight is “In the Night/Lambaya Puf De,” in which Mitch and the band combine New Orleans R&B with a classic Turkish song, generating a wildly ecstatic response from the hometown crowd grooving to every second of the ten-minute-plus extravaganza.

TERESA JAMES & THE RHYTHM TRAMPS
"COME ON HOME" IS HERE! |
|
"She can sing like a bird or a bat out of Hell!"
A mayor of a small Texas town once introduced Teresa to the stage with this colorful description of the Texas singer. By all accounts, the new CD, Come On Home, by Teresa and her band, the Rhythm Tramps is a powerful example of this - combining her strong vocal presence with the immense songwriting talents of her partner, Terry Wilson, along with the world class musicians performing here, this is a CD that definitely deserves a listen. To quote Brett Fleming, from WEVL in Memphis... “the new disc by Teresa James is amazing!”
Come on Home is the eighth CD from this artist; nominated for a Blues Foundation award in 2008 and an IMA in 2010, this CD has been in the making for a while and it definitely shows. From the raunchy title track opener, "Come On Home," to the soulful, Otis-style ballad, "Forgetting You," this CD covers the spectrum of blues and R&B with the feel of a Texas roadhouse. It includes ten original songs that show the full range of the band’s talent and influences. As freelance music critic, Dave Barry wrote, “It’s just… natural soul coming through... a set of pipes that make me enjoy it so much I want to cry and smile at the same time.”
Check out her website for sample cuts and live videos of the band.
Upcoming dates:
September 29 - Valencia Jazz & Blues Festival (Valencia, CA)
October – Lombardi Ranch Pumpkin Festival
November 2 – Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse (Durham, NC)
November 3 – Tater Jam (Kinston, NC)
January - Sandy Beaches Cruise – Delbert McClinton & Friends
