Shaun Murphy :: ASK FOR THE MOON |
|
From Broadway to Motown, Eric Clapton, Bob Seger, to the first lady of Little Feat, Shaun Murphy has an impressive resume.
With her new Vision Wall Records release, Ask For The Moon, getting rave reviews, Shaun is still reeling from all the great friends that stepped up to perform on this CD.
These friends include ex-Allman Brother, Johnny Neel, Bekka Bramlett, (Fleetwood Mac) legendary sax man Jim Horn, (George Harrison, Aretha Franklin) Kenny Greenberg, (Bob Seger) Shawn Starski, (Otis Taylor) Tim Gonzalez, (Toby Keith) along with Daryl Burgess, and Boyd LeFan.
“This body of work can be truly categorized as a labor of love.”
Mark Joseph--Elmore Magazine
“As good as Murphy's other releases have been, this one surpasses all of them. It is simply a bravura performance throughout, with Murphy removing any doubt that she is one of the best of her generation.”
Mark Thompson, Bluesblast Magazine
“I'd enjoy hearing her sing nursery rhymes.”
Peter ‘Blewzzman’ Lauro-Mary4music
"I don’t think the lady has a bad song in her!”
Gary Eckhart—Blue Monday Monthly

Mark Robinson :: HAVE AX — WILL GROOVE |
|
Mark Robinson’s debut album Quit Your Job — Play Guitar ignited like the first kaleidoscopic blast of a fireworks display. It was an attention-grabbing harbinger of even more exciting, incendiary things to come. DJs quickly embraced the disc and About.com Blues, Blues Underground Network and BluesVan branded it one of 2010’s best.
Now Robinson’s follow-up, Have Axe — Will Groove, provides an even more colorful and explosive display of the Nashville-based guitarist and songwriter’s estimable skills. And while the title of Quit Your Job —Play Guitar was autobiographical, the songs on his new release are even more personal… and dirtier and funkier and grittier. And when it comes to Robinson’s sterling guitar work, they’re also more colorful.
"Have Axe — Will Groove is about finding my voice as an artist,” he explains. “The songs are stronger and fit together well, and they all say something about my life — whether they’re inspired by things that happened to me or that I was reflecting on, or by the music and the experiences that have guided me along the way playing blues and country and other styles.
“What I’m interested in,” Robinson says, “isn’t being flashy or making the latest hit single. I’m making records and playing gigs to try to make music that moves people.”

BLUZAPALOOZA FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN NEEDS OUR
COLLECTIVE HELP IN BRINGING MUSIC TO OUR TROOPS |
Bluzapalooza has featured America's greatest blues artists entertaining America's greatest troops at military bases and hospitals throughout the USA as well as abroad. Bluzapalooza currently have a fund raiser going on and here’s the latest from Steve Simon, creator and coordinator of Bluzapalooza: “We only have [14] more days left in our campaign to raise funds to bring free celebrity Blues concerts to our troops here at home. We are reaching out to you once more to say thanks to those who have already contributed and to ask those of our friends who have not had an opportunity to participate to please go to our fundraising site at indiegogo.com/bluzapalooza and pledge whatever you can. We need your help now. Thanks so very much."
Bluzapalooza's evolution in Simon's words...
"In 2007, I saw a US Army soldier stationed in Baghdad interviewed on the evening news. He was 19 years old, had never been away from home, and was now in the middle of a war in Iraq with bombs going off around the clock. He spoke about why he joined the Army, about his dedication to his Army buddies, about the carnage he had witnessed and about the impact that war has had on him.
When the interviewer asked him what he missed the most he looked up and said, "just a little touch of home."
His comment touched my heart. My immediate thought was "I could bring him a little touch of home."
Having produced Blues concerts for many years and having been on the Board of Directors of The Blues Foundation, I knew that most of our country's Blues artists were very patriotic and would do anything to bring some love and a touch of home to our troops.
The following day I began the process of creating what is now known all over the world as BLUZAPALOOZA."

PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED 1969 BIG BOY CRUDUP STUDIO SESSION WITH JIMMY DAWKINS COMING OUT IN FEB ON DELMARK |
Delmark announces that the previously unreleased studio session, Sunny Road, by Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup with Jimmy Dawkins and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith, is set for release in February.
Best known for “That’s All Right” and two other songs covered by Elvis Presley, bluesman Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup was born in Forest, Mississippi. Crudup visited Chicago in 1939 as a member of the gospel group The Harmonizing Four and stayed to work as a solo artist but was not successful. Record producer Lester Melrose allegedly found him living in a packing crate.
Crudup toured the country in 1948 with Sonny Boy Williamson II and Elmore James. Throughout his career Crudup recorded for Victor, Ace, Checker, Trumpet, Bluebird, Trumpet and in the 60s, Delmark.
This session was recorded November 10, 1969 and features Jimmy Dawkins and Willie “Big Eyes” Smith. Crudup’s guitar was amped through the same rotating Leslie speaker that Buddy Guy used on Junior Wells’ Hoodoo Man Blues (Delmark 612) for seven of the nine songs here. There’s also a nice talk section between Crudup and producer Bob Koester.
