Kevin Selfe is one of Delta Groove's "Blues Stimulus Program" Winners and Long Walk Home, his debut on their label, is set for release Feb 19,2013.
Lisa Cee is a favorite singer of southern Californian blues and roots-music fans thanks to her many hi-profile performances over the years. Although a seasoned vet, My Turn is Lisa Cee's first release. A fiery, true vocalist and melodic, intelligent, songwriter, Lisa shows why she has been the main performer at the Sundance Film Festival for the last 8 years. This release features 10 originals and obscure covers from Robert Lucas and Mickey Champion.
My Turn is a passionate journey full of powerful expression and will surely find favor with blues and funky roots aficionados everywhere.
From Michele Lundeen your BFG Editor: I like to pay honor where it's due. Being a blues musician as well having that genre and it's roots entrenched into my life for many, many years, I deeply respect where the blues came from and where it's going. I cherish the work done by the forefathers as well as the frontrunners of this music, this lifestyle if you will, longing for a blues fix and the passion and truth that lies within. I can't help but associate Black History Month with the Blues.... and that's a part of American History. Not only the unimaginable struggles that raised it and named it but the figures that many associate it with like W.C. Handy, Robert Johnson, Son House, Huddie Ledbetter, Charley Patton, Maime Smith, Willie Dixon, Ma Rainey, Muddy Waters and on but all those that left indelible footprints. Obviously blues musicians are not even the tip of the iceberg of why this month of observance was created and we do honor them no matter the month... not black, not white, just blues. But, for me anyway, this month brings even more focus to the path that has carried the blues.
While researching "Black History Month" just now I ran across a few articles and links (below) and thought to share. Do your own research!
February is Black History month. Some say that this special month is no longer necessary because African American history should be taught throughout the year. That argument minimizes the historic significance of the month itself and the opportunity it brings to set time aside to dig deeper into Black history...
Whither Black History Month? The problem isn’t the month, it’s the history. At this stage of my life, I have mixed feelings about Black History Month. The moment on the calendar, set aside to celebrate the past achievements of African Americans, has felt outdated to me for as long as I can remember. Read entire story here...

Ray Charles' Heirs Win Copyright Ownership Of Dad's Works
The children of late entertainer Ray Charles have regained copyright ownership of some of their famous father's most popular songs.
Seven of the Hit the Road Jack's relatives filed a motion against Warner/Chappell Music chiefs to reclaim ownership of some of their dad's work in 2010, but executives behind the hitmaker's organization, the Ray Charles Foundation, challenged his offspring's efforts since they too were receiving royalties from the publishing deal.
And now U.S. District Judge Audrey Collins has dismissed the charity's authority to intervene, granting Charles' heirs the legal right to 60 of his best-known compositions, according to trade publication Variety.
She also ordered bosses of the soul star's namesake foundation to cover the cost of the defendant's court fees.

A bit of BFG IBC Adventure...
Our publisher Kaati is at IBC as I write this. She's run into so many BFG friends... too many to mention here at the moment. But here she is with musician/educator/writer Michael "Hawkeye" Herman (top left) who she ran into at the Denver airport and 2010 IBC Winner Grady Champion (far right) who was in Memphis just to say "hi" to all.
She had our Blues Festival Guide table set up (center photo) and hundreds of musicians filed past it at Club 152 on Beale Street on their way to the band registration table run by the Blues Foundation folks.
"We passed out Blues Festival Guide magazines, stickers, Mardi Gras beads," Kaati reported. "We conducted a raffle. We met musicians from all over the world including from Australia, Israel, The Netherlands and more! The Croatians brought 27 people to Memphis!"
Look for more IBC adventures and photos from BFG soon!
(Editor note: Our raffle winners are announced in the article above)
