Greetings From Your Editor... |
|
|
Here's a Health on to Ye! |
So, let's see if we can guess what's cookin' this weekend ...corned beef and cabbage? Oh, how predictable we can be! The wearing of the green and pretendin' to be Irish fer a day (except fer you real Irish folk)! Yes, St. Patrick's Day is Sunday Mar 17. Last year I was in NYC and among other things, took a cool photo of young men hanging on a giant green Gumby (see below). When our kids were little my sister and I would have a family breakfast and make green pancakes and green milk for the lil' darlins'... and they loved it (well, the green milk was a stretch!)
What's on tap for you shamrocks? Well, there's the Steel City Blues Fest in Pennslyvania and "Cused of The Blues in New Mexico for starters (see Festival listings this issue) and a mini-fest in Rentiesville. St. Paddy's weekend is always a cause for celebrating. Where are the Irish Blues bands or more Green-Blues parties you ask? Well check your local listings and if you end up with a super festive photo, send it to me!
This week maybe you can find a Leprechaun to hug. Not only will you get some excercise running the lil' bugger down but just think of how cool it would be to see the look on 'is face if ya did!
Here's a health on to ye! Your ever-grateful editor... Michele Lundeen
If you missed your latest (or any) copy of the Weekly e-Guide, you can find back issues in our archives on our website!

From Blues Festival Guide publisher, Kaati:
Attention Blues Festival Promoters: RAISE THE ROOF |
Here is a unique opportunity for you to get yourself and your festival attendees involved with the exciting Blues Foundation's RAISE THE ROOF: Campaign for the Blues Hall of Fame
The Blues Hall of Fame pays tribute to the greatest of the genre and educates new people about the genre. The Blues Foundation has been inducting people into the Blues Hall of Fame for years; it was a simple evening with web presence. Nothing permanent. But now we need physical presence.
We are working with the Blues Foundation and a myriad of artists and organizations to spread the word about this noble cause. Because we are right in the middle of preparing for festival season, this is the perfect time for you to get involved as well and it requires just a small amount of effort.
Here is a link with more details about the Blues Hall of Fame campaign. Our goal is to help raise awareness (this is where you come in) in order to raise funds to reach the goal of 3.5 million. We know you are busy with your event but here are some easy, quick and free ways you can get the word out about this worthwhile campaign.
What you can do: Add Blues Hall of Fame logo to your website
- Add BHF banner ad to your website - Include BHF ad in your Program
- MC announcements from stage - Pass out brochure to your attendees
Please make a commitment to this cause and let’s use the momentum of the festival season to create awareness! How does someone donate? Donate online. Call me if you want to share ideas or to get an ad for your website or program.

Doug MacLeod :: THERE'S A TIME |
|
There’s a Time is the Reference Records label debut of blues/roots singer-songwriter Doug MacLeod. Produced by MacLeod and Janice Mancuso and recorded at Skywalker Sound, the “baker’s dozen” tracks on showcase MacLeod's soulful vocals and trademark guitar sound backed by Denny Croy on bass and Jimi Bott on drums. The trio was recorded live with no overdubs.
Doug MacLeod's unique, unorthodox and powerfully rhythmic acoustic guitar style was put to great use playing on a variety of guitars like a National M-1 Tricone, a Gibson C-100 FE and a National Style “O”. Listening to the songs on There’s a Time is also like attending a master class on storytelling, as MacLeod weaves tales that are visceral, insightful and often humorous.
In a career that spans over 30 years, Doug MacLeod has recorded 19 studio albums, several live records, compilations, a blues guitar instructional DVD and a live performance DVD. His songs have been covered by Grammy-nominated artists and have been featured in many TV movies, and the TV series, “In the Heat of the Night.”
There's A Time is available on CD and a vinyl two-LP set.

Rev. Jimmie Bratcher :: SECRETLY FAMOUS |
|
Secretly Famous is the latest CD from the blues-rock singer/guitarist Rev Jimmie Bratcher. The album was produced by multi-Grammy-winner Jim Gaines and recorded at his Bessie Blue Studio in Stantonville, Tennessee.
“Secretly Famous is my seventh album but I really feel like it’s my first,” says Bratcher. “This album is different for me because I went further back into my roots than on any of my other albums, back to a time before I became “The Rev.”
Secretly Famous features an even-dozen tracks including 10 originals and two scintillating covers: The Rev’s boogie-in’ take on John D. Loudermilk’s classic “Tobacco Road;” and a beautiful reading of the Association’s ‘60s hit, “Never My Love,” that brings a new depth of feeling and emotion to the song. Another track of note is “Check Your Blues at the Door,” an original blues shuffle destined to become a fan favorite and blues lover’s anthem.
