Greetings from your Editor... |
|
|
Years back I wrote a little bluesy song about ice cream to include in our regional Blues In The Schools interactive presentations. Okay, ice cream isn't necessarily a blues thing... or is it... it sure can make you feel good when you're in the dumps and you have to admit, ice cream at an outdoor blues fest sounds pretty refreshing. The idea of the song is to engage the kids with something they can identify with (ya know, other than singin; about whiskey and wild women). My favorite part is the bridge when I have them holler out their favorite flavors all at the same time (the turnaround is, "got so many flavors... don't know which one to chose). It's pure mayhem but it sounds delicious and gives them some food for thought.
So... ready to holler this Sunday? It happens to be National Ice Cream Day!
Festivals to bask in THIS weekend include those in Italy, Canada, South Dakota Switzerland, Mississippi, Rhode Island, Alabama, Michigan, Washington and more.
Blues Birthdays of note: July 18 Screamin Jay Hawkins (1929), Lonnie Mack (1941), July 19 Buster Benton (1932), Little Freddie King (1940), July 21 Floyd Jones (1917), July 23 Champion Jack Dupree (1910)
Talk to ya next week! Your ever-grateful editor,
Michele Lundeen

Buddy Guy :: RHYTHM & BLUES |
|
Six-time Grammy Award winner and 2012 Kennedy Center Honoree Buddy Guy will release his new studio album Rhythm & Blues (RCA Records). The follow-up to his 2010 Grammy Award winning album Living Proof, this double-disc masterpiece features first time studio collaborations with A-list artists Kid Rock, Keith Urban, Gary Clark, Jr., Beth Hart and Aerosmith members Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and Brad Whitford.
Produced by Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter and longtime collaborator Tom Hambridge (Skin Deep, Living Proof), Rhythm & Blues captures the 76 year-young Guy at the peak of his creativity. Replete with heartfelt vocals, straightforward lyrics and mesmerizing guitar licks, Rhythm & Blues not only exemplifies how blues continues to be the foundation of all genres of today’s music, it also illustrates why Guy has been influential in the careers of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan and more.
The Rhythm disc includes rhythm and blues-style blues with deep grooves and the Blues disc taps into the genre’s rich history

Randy Scott :: OUT OF THE BLUE |
|
After being on hiatus from the music business for nine years, Randy Scott wandered into a Guitar Center and started playing while waiting for some friends. The manager suggested he enter their annual King of The Blues competition. On a fluke he entered and ended up surpassing thousands to become Guitar Center's 4th Annual King of The Blues.
Scott’s debut album, Out Of The Blue, marks his triumphant return to his first love and passion: music. On 13 tracks, Scott fills Out Of The Blue with his fiery style and virtuosic playing. Scott is backed by Gary Novak (drums), Travis Carlton (bass) from Robben Ford’s band, and Jeff Babko (keys) from Larry Carlton’s band. Also featured on the album is guitar legend Albert Lee who called Scott “one of the best blues guitarist I’ve heard come along in a long time.” Out Of The Blue is produced by multi platinum, multi-Grammy
winner Pete Anderson.
