Greetings from your Editor...
This week I'm proud once again to be the vocal instructor and director's assistant at our regional Blues Camp for ages 11-17. I've been onboard since it's inception four years ago and these kids never cease to amaze me. We all have just one week to acclimate and dive into 6 new-to-them songs in preparation for the Friday night finale concert. Some are virtual beginners and the last two years at least one student has their own blues band. Some are dedicated to one instrument while others float on a few, and well. The week has already held amazing moments and revelations for all of us. One thing's for sure... The blues is in good hands.
These kids usually get turned on to the blues by their parents and come to us enthusiastically. There's a lot to be said for that! July 28 is National Parents Day celebrating family values and structure. I'd say these parents have nurtured well!
Festivals locations to nurture yourself at THIS weekend include Alabama, California, Switzerland, Mississippi, Ohio, Indiana, Latvia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and more.
Blues Birthdays of note: July 28 Michael Bloomfield (1943), Roy Rogers (1950), Junior Kimbrough (1930), July 30 Buddy Guy (1936), Big Jack Johnson (1940), July 31 Ahmet Ertegun (1923 co-founder Atlantic Records), Aug 1 Robert Cray (1953)
Talk to ya next week! Your ever-grateful editor,
Michele Lundeen

The CD Woodbury Band :: MONDAY NIGHT
The great Northwest has produced legendary musicians from the Kingsmen to Jimi Hendrix. Now add the blues busting CD Woodbury Band to the list as the pride of Washington state. After years of paying his dues in a variety of genres, Woodbury founded his group in 2009 and released Sunbanks Live! (2010) while earning a rep as “the Northwest’s best-kept secret.” Their rump-kicking studio debut, Monday Night, will lay that distinction to rest as they break out to wide acclaim.
