Greetings from your Editor...
Saturday October 5th is World Teacher Day. Aside from family, teachers closely influence the hearts and minds of children. But let's think in broader terms here... Blues music has taught us a lot about life, touching our hearts and minds as well as allowing us to commiserate together about our lessons learned in the school of hard knocks. So, let's extend our thanks to the artists who have helped teach us how to deal with many of life's basic lessons. While we're at it, let's give big props to all those dedicated artists that lead Blues in the Schools programs around the world, sharing the roots to the next generation. "I have been taught something that cannot be measured by grades," says a high school student. The program can be applied not just to music but to other studies. Check this out plus see our "Featured Video" this week.
The month of October itself, among many other worthy and weird things, is National Sarcastic Awareness Month. Ah yes, sarcasm is a delicate art. Don't you hate it when you bounce back with the perfect line only to have to tell some over-thinker you were just kidding?! Hello, is this thing on?
Lots of Birthday's of Note: Oct 3 Stevie Ray Vaughan (1954), Billy Branch (1951 Blues in The Schools founder), Keb' Mo' (1951) and Deborah Coleman (1956); Oct 4 Duke Robillard (1948) and Betsie Brown (Blind Raccoon); Oct 5 Roy Book Binder (1943) and Rick Estrin (1949); Oct 6 Cheryl O'Grady Yearnshaw (dear friend and BFG Sales Director); Oct 9 O.V. Wright (1939).
Talk to ya next week! Your ever-grateful editor,

Smokin'Joe Kubek & Bnois King :: ROAD DOG'S LIFE
Following on the heels of the Texas duo's daring unplugged release, Close to The Bone, Smokin' Joe Kubek and Bnois King return to form with a stripped-down set of tough, electrified roadhouse blues. Road Dog's Life features an arsenal of mostly new and original material, emphasizing King's own wry, insightful lyrics, along with Kubek's searingly incisive, signature guitar, with the exception of only two covers - the Rolling Stones' “Play with Fire” and the Beatles' “Don't Bother Me.” Special guests include the Fabulous Thunderbirds' frontman Kim Wilson, Nightcats' guitarist Kid Andersen, Delta Groove label head Randy Chortkoff, Kansas City bassist Patrick Recob, along with the Mannish Boys' rhythm section, consisting of bassist Willie J. Campbell and drummer Jimi Bott.

What's more, the blues and roots-rockin' styles to which Smith had previously applied his indelible songwriting are jazz and Latin sounds, with a strong emphasis on various shades of classic soul music.
Cobalt features Holland K. Smith (guitar); Ron Jones (saxophone); Gentleman John Street (keyboards); Wes Starr (drums); Dunye Nasuhoglu (percussion).
