GRAMMY-NOMINATED PETER HIMMELMAN HOPES TO "KICKSTART" NEW PROJECT
Nashville, Tenn. (November 5, 2013) - GRAMMY-nominated Rock / Folk singer-songwriter PETER HIMMELMAN has a new album in his crosshairs and is asking friends and fans for a little help. Himmelman recently launched his first Kickstarter campaign in support of his (hopefully) upcoming album, The Boat That Carries Us.
To date, the campaign has earned almost $30,000 in donations. To bank the current funds already received for the project, Himmelman must reach $36,000 worth of donations by November 20.
On choosing Kickstarter to help fund the project, Himmelman notes, "No one's buying recorded music because nobody has to anymore. It's literally streaming everywhere. I want to continue making records (and I hope you want to continue listening to them) but I simply can't keep doing it when no one's paying for them. That's why after some deliberating, I've chosen to reach out to you on Kickstarter."
Himmelman feels like this record will not be another one of his "dark" works. "I've been exploring themes of unease and the portent of chaos for a while now and I've had it," he says. "My forcing frame, the structure I've put on myself this go round, is to do something that reflects the way I typically feel, which is quite hopeful. I'm not saying this is going to be a Disney record, but instead of the songs being focused on life's struggles, I'm going to try and depict a sense of wonder about life's joys and possibilities. That's what I'm thinking today at any rate."
Legendary and highly respected session players on the work in progress include drummer Jim Keltner (famed for work with Bob Dylan, George Harrison and John Lennon), Lee Sklar (world-renowned bass player) and guitarist David Steele. The album is being produced by Sheldon Gomberg (known for work with Five For Fighting, Mandy Moore, others).
