TABLE  OF  CONTENTS
Greetings from your Editor...
Thankful for the Blues...

A hearty Happy Thanksgiving and also Happy Hanukkah to our Judaistic friends (this is first time in 125 years that they have coincided on the same day). There are so many things for all of us to be thankful for and sometimes we have to remind ourselves what they are. A great mantra to recite everyday would be simply to recall even the smallest positive things before we shut off the light at night and/or each morning when we awake.

I'm sure I can speak for all of us when I say I'm thankful I got turned on to blues music and indeed all of it's facets. It was a natural introduction as I realized it was already a part of my soul. Then to find out how truly huge the like-minded blues family is and from all corners of the earth. I, for one, feel extremely thankful and blessed to be part of that rich family.

We here at BFG want to thank all of our Blues loving friends for being an extension of our little family tree! We're thankful for those things that bring us together in music and really, just plain life! Many blessings to you and yours. Embrace the feelings and enjoy! And yes, I had pumpkin pie for breakfast!

"Well, I start to count my blessings - that's all that I need to do. And I've got to give thanks for the joy of living my life with you." (Ruthie Foster)

Blues Birthdays of Note this week: Nov 29 John Mayall (1933); Nov 30 Robert Nighthawk (1909), Brownie McGhee (1915), Shuggie Otis (1953), Dec 4 Larry Davis (1936), Dec 5 Alec "Rice" Miller aka Sonny Boy Williamson II (1899), "Little Richard" Penniman (1932), Dec 9 Junior Wells (1934).

Harlem Street Singer: The Reverend Gary Davis Story
The movie documentary, Harlem Street Singer: The Reverend Gary Davis Story, tells the story of Gary Davis, one of the most underrated musicians of our time. Though Davis has had a huge influence on many well-known musicians, including Bob Weir and Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead, Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane, David Bromberg, Bob Dylan, Woody Mann, Dave Van Ronk, and Townes van Zandt, his story has gone virtually unknown until now. Read lots more cool details here

Jeff Jensen Donates $1,000 in Beale Street Tips
Memphis Bluesman Jeff Jensen, who has played regularly in Beale Street blues clubs over the past several years, surprised the staff of the Blues Foundation by presenting 1,000 one dollar bills, which he collected over the past year in tips while playing on Beale Street, as a donation to the Foundation’s “Raise the Roof” Campaign for the Blues Hall of Fame.

Jensen said his donation was prompted by his love of the blues: “I make my living playing blues music and have for almost 10 years now. It is way more than a job, it truly is a calling. I try my hardest to make people’s lives better through my music. So when I heard the slogan “If not now, when? If not us, who?” it really hit me. That “us” is me. I started thinking about what can I really do, and realized that the tip bucket was the place to start.“ Read more about Jeff and his story here
