Stax Museum, B.B. King among Recipients of 2015 Tennessee Governor's Arts Awards

NASHVILLE, TN - The Stax Museum of American Soul Music and blues great B.B. King were among recipients of the 2015 Governor's Arts Awards. The awards, which recognize individuals and institutions who represent the best of arts and culture in Tennessee, were presented during a ceremony March 17 in Nashville.
King received a Distinguished Artist Award and "continues to reign as the unchallenged 'King of the Blues,’” said the Tennessee Arts Commission. This award it presented to Tennessee artists of exceptional tale nt and creativity in any discipline who have contributed to the arts and influenced directions, trends and aesthetic practices on a state and national level.

Roadside oddities: Dockery Farms & the birth of the blues
|
CLEVELAND, MS - B.B. King said it all started at Dockery Farms – the blues, that is. And he would probably know, being one of the most revered blues musicians of all time.
The blues is quite possibly America’s most distinctive musical style and many of its most iconic practitioners worked and lived in and around this cotton plantation, including Charley Patton, Robert Johnson, Howlin’ Wolf and Son House. Their music has been immensely influential on popular culture, particularly on rock n’ roll, with legends like Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones and, most recently, the White Stripes, covering their songs.

Washington Blues Society Announces 2015 Best of the Blues Awards
|
KIRKLAND,WA - The Washington Blues Society ’s annual Best of the Blues Awards (“BB Awards”) returns to the Kirkland Performance Center on Sunday, April 12th to honor musicians and artists nominated by blues society members in 31 award categories. The 2015 BB Awards features performances by over 45 select nominees and recognize new inductees into the Washington Blues Society Hall of Fame.
The nominees once again represent the very best blues performers from throughout the Pacific Northwest.
