So Low is the solo release by Tim Williams winner, the 2014 International Blues Challenge in the Solo/Duo category is known as, “One of Canada’s finest acoustic blues revivalists and…a terrific entertainer.” Says Sing Out. Williams play all guitars, mandolin and foot tapping No overdubs or multi-tracks, just live. “Conversation halts, glasses still, and all eyes turn on Tim Williams as the room becomes a train stop on a tour of half – forgotten memories in the collective consciousness.”
“Solo (So Low) means just that. No guests, not even any overdubs or edits. Two hands, a good instrument, a voice, and the tapping of a two-tone wing-tip shoe. And nothing plugged in but the microphones and recording gear.

Corey Dennison Band (self-titled)
|
There's a manic joy in Corey's playing. He laughs in recognition of an exceptional riff, and shakes his head from side to side to acknowledge he's hit the groove he's looking for. Corey is constantly in motion and attuned to the music and the band members. He's worked hard to bring this all together. Here is the result on Delmark. Really good music --- honest, fearless, and without restraint. Ain't no "cain't" in Corey. Let's DO this thing! 13 new, original songs include "Getcha' Pull!,""Tugboat Blues" and "Room To Breathe."
"I've never seen anybody play the blues with more feeling and with more passion than Corey Dennison," says Tom Marker, Producer and Host of Blues Breakers on WXRT and Blues Time on WDCB.

Elvin Bishop headlines the 30th Annual Carolina Blues Festival May 21
|
(Photo Lt-Rt: Elvin Bishop, Bob Margolin, Samantha Fish, Marquise Knox) GREENSBORO, NC - 2015 Rock ‘n Roll and 2016 Blues Hall of Fame inductee, Elvin Bishop, will headline this year's 30th Annual Carolina Blues Festival in association with YES! Weekly, May 21, 2016 at Barber Park Amphitheather in Greensboro, North Carolina. Elvin has been travelling the Blues road longer than most, and he’s got the stories to prove it – many of which are contained in the songs he writes and performs. Bishop was a founding member of the groundbreaking Paul Butterfield Blues Band in the early ‘60s. He has recorded with legends like Clifton Chenier, John Lee Hooker, and The Allman Brothers, and has had Pop success with his own 1976 smash hit “Fooled Around and Fell In Love.”

American Epic Film Unearths America's Earliest Music Records
|
It was a man-sized contraption of tubes, levers and wires. To look at it, you’d never guess it was as revolutionary as the Wright brothers’ biplane, Thomas Edison’s light bulb or Steve Job’s Macintosh.
Created by Western Electric, it recorded live music and imprinted it in the grooves of a metal disc that anyone with a cheap record player, anywhere, at any time, could listen to and enjoy.
“America invented the technology that allowed the world to hear itself,” director Bernard MacMahon said during a question-and-answer session with the film’s producer Allison McGourty at the House of Independents on Cookman Avenue. “This film is really a celebration of that.” A new documentary, American Epic, the final film showcased at the Asbury Park Music in Film Festival April 10, tells the little-known story of that machine, and the magic it unleashed. ...Find more about this documentary and schedule

Down & Dirty: 10 Next-Gen Resonator Players
|
Resonators may be the coolest instruments ever made: shiny metal acoustic guitars that look as loud as they sound, or wooden bodies with massive metal cones in the middle. They look like a vintage sci-fi creation, and in the hands of a Son House, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Tampa Red, Taj Mahal, Bruce Cockburn, Keith Richards, or Duane Allman, resonators explode with the fuzzy crackle of a space rocket.
Originally designed in the late 1920s to pump up the volume on acoustic guitars, resonators today are used to dirty up the blues, make a country slide-note moan, give some meatiness to a folk song, or add a little sizzle-and-fry to rock.
Resonators are either square-neck and played on the lap, or round-neck for playing more conventionally.

The Talkin'Blues Podcast with Mako Funasaka

Intro from Mako Funasaka:
"Back in the summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to attend the Pennsylvania Blues Festival and see Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters perform live. It was a musical experience that I will never forget. The next day, I had the chance to interview Ronnie Earl for a video project I was working on and he was kind enough to spend some time chatting with me about his life and music. Unfortunately, I had no idea that I would be using this interview for a future podcast project, I did not mic myself. Thanks to the great audio work of Gary Vaughan, he has made me somewhat audible. (Music: "Leaving" by Steve Strongman. Special thanks to Deb Blanchard, Ronnie Earl, Holger Petersen, Andrew Galloway, Michael Cloeren, Bruce Greenaway and Gary Vaughan)."
