PAUL REDDICK : : Revue: The Best of Paul Reddick
Acclaimed producer/blues musician Colin Linden has said that Paul Reddick is one of the most original and inventive singer-songwriters in blues today. His work has been influenced by such poets as William Blake, Kenneth Rexroth, William Carlos Williams as well as the music of Sleepy John Estes, Fred McDowell and the Alan Lomax field recordings. He is a strong, soulful vocalist whose focus and intensity connect him to the listener with genuine intimacy. His harmonica playing is a blend of complex rhythmic patterns, soaring solo lines, and great dynamic range.

THE TWISTERS : : After the Storm
The Twisters are Canada's premier jump/blues band. Period.
The band has just recently battled a big storm of their own, having gone through a devastating automobile accident that took the life of their bass player. James Taylor, and injured the rest of the band in October 2005.
The Twisters have battened the hatches and have rallied back with a new bass player, Keith Picot, and a brand-new CD of original tunes.
After the Storm stays true to their high-spirited jump/blues tradition, but includes many new grooves and feels--and includes special guest Kenny "Blues Boss" Wayne, on piano--the 2005 JUNO Award winner for Best Blues Album.

DOWNCHILD : : LIVE a the Palais Royale, Toronto, Canada
When you think of the blues in Canada, Downchild is always mentioned first. Almost 40 years since their formation, this Canadian institution are still at the top of their game - taking home this year's Blues Award for Entertainer of the Year. Founded by brothers Donnie and Hock Walsh, Downchild were the inspiration for fellow Torontonian Dan Aykroyd to create The Blues Brothers. The Downchild sound was all over the Blues Brothers multi-million selling soundtrack album, Briefcase Full of Blues, including covers of the Donnie Walsh original, "Almost", and their trademark arrangements of "Shotgun Blues" and "Flip Flop & Fly."
Today, Downchild's live shows still sizzle with jump blues, original songwriting and arrangements, with Donnie's guitar and harmonica work dueling with singer and harmonica player Chuck Jackson, keyboardist Michael Fonfara, bassist Gary Kendall and their trademark horns.
Live at the Palais Royale was recorded without overdubs or pitch correction, and is a testament to the skill of musical execution by these incredible musicians. Downchild is one of those musical rarities for which there's virtually no difference between the studio recording experience and the live event. The Toronto blues band, now in its fourth decade, has always been a no-tricks outfit.

ALLIGATOR RECORDS NOW AVAILABLE THROUGH BANDVILLAGE
|
Memphis, TN., June 13, 2007 – bandVillage announced this week that it has finalized an agreement with Alligator Records to add the Alligator Records recordings to the existing catalogue of bandVillage artists and labels. Effective immediately, Alligator releases will be available on both the bandVillage.com website and at bandVillage retail sites at festivals throughout the U.S.
After bandVillage founder Peter Fleming and Alligator founder Bruce Iglauer met at the 2007 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, it became clear to both that the joint venture would fulfill their common goals of bringing independent music to a wider audience and providing emerging artists with the support and exposure needed to promote their music. As Peter noted “This is exciting for us, Alligator is one of the largest independent record labels and this partnership helps us fulfill our mission of promoting both independent artists and labels.”
Currently over 240 of the 250 available Alligator titles are available from bandVillage.com. To celebrate the partnership, bandVillage is currently offering free shipping on the purchase of two or more CDs if one of the CDs is from the Alligator collection.
Founded by Peter Fleming, bandVillage was conceived as a better way to promote independent musicians, encourage live music, and most importantly encourage fans to support those musicians. bandVillage is a global music portal providing a web presence and management tools for artists as well as CD sales, artist information, digital music downloads and artist merchandise to music fans world wide.
bandVillage supports The Blues Foundation, The Americana Music Association, The Roots Music Association and the North American Folk Alliance. In February 2005, bandVillage was honored to receive the prestigious Keeping The Blues Alive award as Blues Sponsor of the Year by the Blues Foundation in Memphis, TN.
Alligator Records began In 1971 when Bruce Iglauer used his savings to record and produce his favorite band, Hound Dog Taylor & the HouseRockers. Over 30 years later Alligator is home to some of the world’s premier blues and roots rock talent and is regarded as a top contemporary blues record label.
With a catalog of over 200 titles, Alligator Records is the largest independent blues label in the world. Its recordings have won more awards than any other contemporary blues label, including a total of 34 Grammy nominations, 18 Indie Awards from the Association For Independent Music (AFIM), three Grand Prix du Disque awards and a total of 70 W.C. Handy Blues Awards.
As Bruce Iglauer states, “Alligator should be the label that’s exposing the next generation of blues artists and bringing their music to the next generation of blues fans. I want the future of the blues and the future of Alligator Records to be one and the same. If the last three decades are any indication, the future for Alligator and for the blues looks very bright indeed.”

Dan Aykroyd Lends His Name to New Winery
|
Blues Brother turned wine entrepreneur Dan Aykroyd has a vision for his new winery located just outside of Lincoln, Ontario, Canada.
Just toss T-bone steaks, chicken salad, iceberg lettuce and peas on the fine-dining menu - and an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) motorcycle and movie memorabilia in the foyer.
"It's what I would give to the boys when they pull up on Harleys," said Aykroyd, an Ottawa-born entertainer, to a howling crowd in Toronto. "I would get them something. Maybe the T-bone steak."
A sleek 125-seat restaurant is part of the plan for the new $12-million, 45,000-square-foot Dan Aykroyd Winery to be built by fall 2008.
A pair of aviator glasses askew on his face, Aykroyd revealed long-awaited plans for the sleek, modern, environmentally friendly building, designed by award-winning Toronto-based architects Moriyama & Teshima, during a Wednesday news conference at Roots on Bloor Street.
The 54-year-old actor, with roles in such films as "Ghostbusters" and "Blues Brothers," teamed up with Toronto-based Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd., a sales and marketing agency that owns four Niagara wineries: EastDell Estates, Lakeview Cellars, Birchwood and Thomas & Vaughan.
Aykroyd invested $1 million in the company in 2005, and announced he was making a line of wines with Diamond last year.
Two of Aykroyd's wines, a Chardonnay and a Cabernet Merlot, were released by the LCBO this week.
Expect plenty of movie memorabilia at Aykroyd's winery, in which he did not invest money. Movie posters, an OPP motorcycle Aykroyd bought when he was 19, photos, scripts and film props from the actor's three-decade-long career will be part of the decor. "All kinds of neat stuff," Aykroyd said.
Officials expect the winery to draw in about 40,000 visitors every year.
Aykroyd does not plan to be an absentee winery owner.
He frequently met with Diamond officials leading up to the release of his wines to put his own stamp on the brand. Aykroyd said he'll spend about a third of his time at the winery.
"In fact, I need to think about my office design," he said with a laugh.
"I haven't thought about that yet."
Aykroyd has thought about the grand opening of his winery.
"Maybe do a concert with Van Morrison, or something, to make a really big splash," Aykroyd said. "We need a good hotel with Harley parking."

NICE GIG FOR ERIC CLAPTON
|
Eric Clapton is to be paid $1.5 million to perform in late July at a private concert organized by Raymond T. Dalio, the hedge-fund executive.
The concert will take place at the Belle Haven Club in Greenwich, CT. Under terms of the agreement, “no public press or announcement pre- or post-event is permitted.” Well, so much for that.
The agreement says the performance, to benefit the China Care Foundation, is expected to be attended by 350 invitation-only guests. Dalio, the founder, president and chief investment officer of Bridgewater Associates, has more than $30 billion in hedge-fund assets.
Besides Mr. Clapton’s fee for a 60- to 70-minute show, the agreement calls for a $1 million donation to 'a charity of Mr. Clapton’s choice to be paid the night of the show.'

NEWS FROM TENNESSEE AND VIRGINIA
MEMPHIS BLUES SOCIETY- Memphis Tennessee
Blind Mississippi Morris is singing the Blues about his house. Code enforcement's giving him about a month to get his house up-to-code or he'll be forced to move out.
It's obvious the century old house on Chelsea needs a lot of work. The garage is falling apart, the windows are boarded up and there are holes in the roof. But to Morris Cummings, the house represents a dream.
"I had visions of working with kids," he said, "mainly recording, since I'm in music. I wanted to do something special for the community."
He moved into his house four years ago and says he's always wanted to transform a portion of it into a recording studio for kids, teach them to turn to music instead of trouble.
But the city says his home isn't even fit to live in, let alone become a studio for children. The notice to vacate on the front door gives Cummings the next few weeks to fix this place up or move out.
The price tag of these major repairs is likely as much as the value of the house itself.
Cummings says he would try and fix it on his own if he could, but he's been legally blind since he was a child.
"I just can't give up on my dream for the kids, if I do that I'm giving up on a lot of people, I'm not about to do that," he said.
Some local city leaders are pitching in to help out. The Memphis Blues Society is holding a fundraiser at Neil's on Madison June 21.
The event is hosted by Memphis Blues Society President Eric Hughes and his band. For more information on the event click here.

RIVER CITY BLUES SOCIETY - Richmond, Virginia
The River City Blues Society (RCBS) has partnered with Capital Ale House to produce a weekly event "Friday After Work Brews and Blues". It's a free event that will feature a weekly smattering of the areas's finest Blues artists in a convenient downtown location.
"We're hoping to expand the audience for live Blues, especially in the downtown region," said Jeff Hansen, member of the RCBS.
"When [the RCBS] had the opportunity to work with Capital Ale House and put live music downtown after work every Friday, it was an opportunity too good to be true," he said.
