Beginning Balboa Swing Dance Classes starting Wednesday, August
22, 2007, 7:30pm For 5 Weeks In Downtown Asheville! Learn the basics of Balboa, a fun, fast dance that was popular
back in the 1930s on crowded dance floors. Breaking away
(separating) from your partner was actually forbidden in some
particularly crowded ballrooms, and the Balboa was born! It is
danced very close to your partner, and the focus is on fancy
footwork. No partner necessary, no
experience necessary. Classes are taught by Mark Nance and Catherine McGuffie.

Music by Bruce Greene & Friends. Admission $3. From Asheville, take 19/23 North. After Mars Hill, bear right on 19... becomes 19E. Pass Burnsville, and at Micaville take Route 80 S. Go approximately 6.5 miles and turn left at 7-Mile Ridge Rd. (Sign says Arthur Morgan School & Celo Health Center.) Cross bridge, then turn right onto Hannah Branch Road. After road turns sharply to the left, look for Arthur Morgan School sign (on right). Take dirt road to left directly across from sign -- keep to left & the next building on left is "Green Cay". (Join in helping keep the dances thriving by volunteering!) Dances with a teacher and recorded music: $4. Dances with a teacher and live music: $7. Dances held 1st Friday of each month and the Saturday that follows 2 weeks later (usually). See the website for more information.
