ONE BY ONE - LAZA MORGAN FEAT. MAVADO - #1 SONG IN JAMAICA, MIAMI & NYC
|
|
New York: US based Laza Morgan, a singjay and rapper whose raspy, rhythmic 'DJ' style flows on his new single One By One featuring Mavado is blazing hot in three of the biggest markets for reggae, namely Kingston, Miami and New York. He currently holds the number one slot on the ER TV chart on TVJ in Jamaica, the Miami Top Ten Charts in Florida and the Weekly Star Top Ten chart in New York.
The track, produced by Bunetta and Frank E, is a hypnotic love song that is blazing dance floors and radio airwaves afire with its compelling charm.
“I am very excited about the song,” Laza beams confidently ofOne by One. “The song represents a fresh voice bringing back the message of love to reggae. This song is also a prelude to several others on the album that speak to the power of love, positive vibes, fun times and just simply enjoying the wonderful gift of life. This song also defines my pop reggae style on the album. There are no cultural barriers to impede the universal enjoyment of this album." Laza recently returned for a successful trip to Jamaica that saw him performing at Reggae Sumfest on Dancehall Night with Mavado and a solo set on International Night 11. Prior to Sumfest, Laza performed with his dad, veteran reggae hitmaker Denroy Morgan at a special “Father & Son” concert at Studio 38 in New Kingston that won rave reviews.

Dry run A musher guides tourists trough the Jamaican countryside. Chukka Caribbean Adventures
You can find a perfect example of the Jamaican spirit in an unexpected place: the Chukka Cove Farm, home to the 30 or so mutts that comprise the Jamaica dogsled team.
“It’s about the can-do attitude of Jamaicans,” says founder Danny Melville, 64, as he rattles off several other examples of Jamaicans’ determination, including reggae music and the beloved Olympic bobsled team.
Located near Ocho Rios, in St. Ann Parish, his Chukka farm offers visitors an opportunity to ride on a dryland sled pulled by 15 dogs, all of them strays that Chukka has adopted. It’s one of several thrill rides offered by Chukka Caribbean Adventures.

SUGAR MINOTT FEATURED ON VP RECORDS REGGAE ANTHOLOGY
|
|
Lincoln Barrington "Sugar" Minott was a Jamaican Reggae singer, Producer and Sound-System Operator. He died on July 10, 2010 at the University Hospital of the West Indies in St. Andrew, Jamaica after being admitted there earlier that day. The cause of death is yet to be announced. He had been affected by a heart condition since early 2009, and cancelled several performances in May 2010 due to chest pains.
On October 18th VP Records will be releasing the 36-track Reggae Anthology, which includes a Bonus DVD featuring Sugar Minott LIVE at JapanSplash!
It is not easy to write about Sugar Minott in the past tense. His presence dominated Jamaican music from the late seventies onwards and it is almost impossible to believe that he is no longer with us. Sugar was not only hugely popular with the Reggae audience but was also massively influential, and inspirational, amongst his fellow musicians and vocalists.

CAMPAIGN "I'M GONNA BE YOUR FRIEND" TO STOP FAMINE IN THE HORN OF AFRICA
|
|
It is hoped a Bob Marley song will help bring awareness to the thousands suffering from the famine in the Horn of Africa. "I'm Gonna Be Your Friend" is a campaign which seeks to bring together celebrity power to gather support and assistance for the 12 million persons in the Eastern Africa who are terribly affected, ill and dying due to famine "I'm Gonna Be Your Friend" is a line from the Hon. Bob Marley's song High Tide Or Low Tide.
In it he expresses his unconditional friendship through good times and bad times. That is the sort of genuine friendship that we all hope and wish for in life. East Africa (Somalia and Ethiopia) is now experiencing one of the worst famines ever. We who are able should help end the hunger and thirst of the suffering people in the motherland. Hon. Bob Marley's song is the soundtrack to a short film on the catastrophe that has hit the Horn of Africa. Proceeds from the film will be donated to Save the Children for the famine victims. Marley's family members and hundreds of other celebrities from around the globe have pledged to help bring awareness, raise funds for the crisis and promote the video by posting it on Twitter and or on their Facebook pages.

DENROY MORGAN OUT ON BAIL FOR MARIJUANA CHARGE; SON REFUTES 'OFFICIAL' VERSION OF EVENTS
|
|
Rasta Dandy: Denroy Morgan (above) was arrested for marijuana posessions on Sept. 13 and is now out on bail. His son Roy "Gramps" Morgan says the media is fabricating the story of his father's arrest.
Veteran Jamaican singer Denroy Morgan, best known for the 1981 reggae-disco hit "I'll Do Anything For You" and the father of the sibling reggae group Morgan Heritage was arrested on Wednesday, September 13, charged with possession of marijuana.
According to numerous media reports said to have come from police records, Morgan, 66, was seen leaving a Bronx New York house carrying a shrink-wrapped brick of compressed marijuana. Police followed Morgan's car and pulled him over after he ran a stop sign. The stench of marijuana permeated the vehicle's interior and after some questioning, two bags of the herb weighing 25 lbs were discovered in the car's trunk. When police returned to the Bronx house that Morgan had left earlier, they allegedly found 310 lbs of marijuana with an estimated street value between $140,000 and $351,000. Wayne Sway, 46, was also arrested following the search.
On Friday, September 16, Morgan was released on $8,000 bail.
Roy "Gramps" Morgan, the eldest son in Morgan Heritage, has dismissed the widely circulated version of events leading to his father's arrest as "baloney." He declined to offer specific details, due to the pending court case, the date of which has not been set.
"That is not what really happened, but that is what the media does; they fabricate stories, because they have to sell papers," said Gramps, via telephone. "Rastafarians use 'nuff ganja, that is a reality, it is part of our holy sacrament."

TATCHELL PROMOTES PRO-GAY REGGAE ARTISTE
|
|
Artiste claims he has received death threats
BRITISH-based gay rights activist Peter Tatchell, has come out in support of Jamaican Reggae artiste Mista Majah P, who has released what is reportedly the first pro-gay Reggae album, entitled 'Tolerance'.
"Jamaican reggae singer Mista Majah P has released the world's first pro-gay reggae album. Called Tolerance and featuring rainbow stripes on the cover, the album includes 11 songs, variously in support of same-sex marriage and adoption by gay couples, as well as attacks on homophobic bullying and the US military policy, Don't Ask Don't Tell. The tracks also feature swipes at the anti-gay prejudices of 'murder music' reggae singer Beenie Man and of the Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding," said Tatchell.
Tatchell is the international coordinator of the Stop Murder Music campaign, which since 2004 has protested against leading Jamaican entertainers including Buju Banton, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Bounty Killer, Capleton, Sizzla and TOK, who have released songs which contain anti-gay lyrics.
Mista Majah P says he is not gay, but supports the LGBT communities and gay equality. "I want to counter the myths that all Jamaicans are homophobic and that all reggae music is violent and anti-gay. I'm seeking to challenge ignorance and reach out to gay people," said the artiste.
"My hope is that this CD, 'Tolerance', will break down the homophobic stance that certain reggae artists and heads of government have taken towards the LGBTQ community. Because of the hateful songs that some performers have been singing, gay people have been threatened and harmed. Some foolish people act upon what these artists are preaching because they worship these artists like gods. My music is about tolerance. It shows that reggae music can respect gay and lesbian people. Reggae music used to be about love, peace and unity. Now it is too often about bigotry and violence. I want to bring the music back to its progressive roots," he added.
"Since releasing the album, Mista Majah P has received numerous death threats and has been warned to not return to Jamaica (he currently resides in California). He's undeterred and defiant, stating that 'murder music' has given reggae a negative image, which is bad for the music industry and for all reggae artists," Tatchell said.

ERNIE SMITH - JAMAICA’S CULTURAL AMBASSADOR
Iconic Reggae singer Ernie Smith has been waving Jamaica’s flag very high the past couple of months, with performances and guest appearance at cultural celebrations in North America. Performing at Jamaica Day in Canada, Jamaica’s Independence Day in New York, and Emancipation Day in Jamaica, Smith proves to be one of Jamaica’s most enthusiastic cultural ambassadors.
In addition to his Jamaica Day performance, Smith did a two week tour of Canada, playing clubs and festivals throughout the country, before shooting down to New York for the August 6th Jamaica Independence festival in Brooklyn. This coming weekend, Smith will be on the West Coast with a performance in Los Angeles.
Since the beginning of his career in the late 1960s, Ernie has penned over 200 songs, several of which have been recorded by other artists, including Goldie Hawn, Johnny Nash, Rita Marley, Chakka Demus & Pliers, Sanchez, Twiggy, Eddie Lovett, Yellowman, famed gospel group Grace Thrillers and others. He has made an indelible mark on Jamaican music with Reggae classics “Bend Down,” “Ride On Sammy,” “One Dream,” “Pitta Patta,” and “Duppy Gunman.” In 1972, he beat songwriters Neil Sedaka and Michael Legrand, to win the Grand Prize at the World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo, and became the first Jamaican musician to win an international music award.
Ernie has hit many of the world’s greatest stages including repeat performances at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden. His anthology After 30 Years: Life is Just for Living was published in 1997. His latest album Country Mile was released in 2010 and features popular IRIE FM radio DJ Ron Machete, and veteran performer Pluto Shervington. In June, Ernie released the humorous single “Nutten A Guh Come Outta Dat.”
Junior Kelly:
AFTER A SUCCESSFUL EUROPEAN TOUR, JUNIOR KELLY SETS HIS SIGHTS ON THE UNITED STATES
Root Reggae champion Junior Kelly spent much of the summer blazing a trail across Europe with powerful performances at the Chiemsee Reggae Festival in Germany, and the Sudoeste Festival in Portugal, where he shared the stage with American superstars Snoop Dogg and Kanye West, as well as roots legends Alpha Blondy, and Inner Circle. Kelly also gave rousing performances at the Garance Reggae Festival in France, Ruhr Festival in Germany, and the Oland Roots Festival in Sweden. The hectic tour also included club dates in Italy, Amsterdam, Denmark, and Slovenia.
After much success in Europe, Junior Kelly is eager to blaze a trail across the United States of America this fall. The well-seasoned and powerful performer was sorely missed at summer festivals throughout the United States, and is now set to give American Reggae music lovers precisely what they’ve been demanding.
Keith ‘Junior Kelly’ Morgan has spent the past decade touring the world as one of roots Reggae’s strongest acts. His breakthrough single “Love So Nice”established him as a bonafide star in 2000. His commanding juxtaposition of precisely timed, deejayed rhymes and melodic singing, coupled with his vivid storytelling abilities, took the song to #1 on the Jamaican charts. “Love So Nice” spent 15 weeks at the top, making it the island’s longest charting number one single for 2000.
The album Love So Nice, released in 2001, also spawned the well-received singles“Sunshine,” “Boom Draw” and the biting social commentary “Hungry Days,” which brought him recognition throughout the Caribbean, North America, and Europe. Kelly followed up Love So Nice, with Juvenille (2002), Conscious Voice (2002), Smile(2003), Bless (2003), and Tough Life (2005), His latest album, Red Pond (2010) features the lilting lovers rock tune “Too Late” with Queen Ifrica, “Murderer,” a ferocious admonishment of gun violence, and “African Child” which was partially inspired by Kelly’s unforgettable visit to Haiti.
Earlier this year, Junior Kelly released the critically acclaimed single “Mister Mighty,” which is currently in rotation on stations around the globe. www.reverbnation.com/juniorkelly

GUYANA BANS MUSIC OF NO-SHOW JAMAICAN SINGER
|
|
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (AP) -- The state-owned radio network in Guyana says a Jamaican dance-hall singer has been banned from the airwaves of the South American country because of obscene lyrics.
National Communications Network spokesman Martin Goolsarran says the music of Vybz Kartel was banned because it brings "nothing positive" to the entertainment industry. He said Wednesday that the decision came after a week of internal debate and said they are reviewing the lyrics of other musicians and could ban them as well.
This is the first time that the government has taken such action against a specific artist. Vybz Kartel angered local music promoters and the Tourism Ministry last month when he failed to show up at a government-supported summer music festival.

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.
It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows. Your call
