I am keeping the following clip up for one more week because I like it so much.  Even if you don't speak Hebrew, you will still enjoy this clip of Israeli school kids singing some of the classics from the early days of the state of Israel, and seemingly loving every minute of it.

Irgun Harokdim - The Israeli Folk DANCERS Organization

published by HarryC_IL@yahoo.com...

In line with the services which we provide to dancers and dance instructors, we have decided to run a legally operated internet-based radio station which will broadcast Israeli folk dance music, alongside a varied range of other programs. The radio station <http://radio.harokdim.org/> is already in operation and broadcasts the songs and tunes of Israeli folk dances 24 hours a day.

We have published a time schedule of live programs hosted by volunteer anchors; the programs will consist of a special topics corner,

interviews with various dance instructors and choreographers from around the country, live talks with listeners, as well as information which we'd like to bring to the attention of the listener. From time to time, the programs will be in English. The program schedule is published on the Radio page <http://radio.harokdim.org/ > .

During the live broadcast, communication between the listener and the announcer can be accomplished by entering the Chat Room <http://harokdim.com/chat/flashchat.php> .

On behalf of myself and the members of Harokdim, I would like to thank the members of the radio team: Rubio, Yardena, Harry, Vered, Orit and

Lilach, as well as the volunteer broadcasters: Rubio, Lilach, Avner, Ayelet, Olah, Maya, Shmulik and Morgan, who willingly volunteer their time and effort broadcasting for the enjoyment of all the dancers and instructors.

The URJ is Offering Israeli Dance Leadership Training For Teens at Kutz Camp This Summer!

Lisa Tzur writes...

On behalf of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ) I am pleased to announce the establishment of an Israeli Dance leadership training program specifically intended for high school youth at the Kutz Camp in Warwick, NY.

For the past 48 years, Kutz has been the home for youth leadership training in the Reform Movement. Currently, we serve approximately 200 students every summer, all of whom are entering high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  Students choose a “major” from such offerings as temple youth group and regional board leadership, songleading, social justice training, leadership through the performing arts, learning to work with special needs campers, etc...

This summer, for the first time since the late 1960s, one of the nine “majors” will train teens in Israeli Dance leadership.  Participants will build a solid and meaningful repertoire of Israeli dances, acquire teaching skills that will allow them to return to home congregations, camps, and youth groups prepared to lead dance to peer groups, religious schools, Jewish day schools and bnai mitzvah.

Participants will learn for approximately 40 hours over the course of their time at camp, and will also choose other areas of interest that will fill their days and nights. We encourage you to explore our website (address at the bottom of this note) to familiarize yourself with our approach and our philosophy regarding youth education and engagement.

No Israeli Dance experience is necessary.

While the campus is inherently connected to the Reform Movement (URJ) the specific training related to dance leadership is open to all who wish to participate. Please note that the campus is not kosher (but does serve kosher style) and celebrates shabbat with instruments, amazing singing and Israeli dancing, with a liberal approach to Jewish thought and practice.

We would be thrilled to speak to you about the specific dance programming, as well as about the camp in general.

Here is the basic program information:

For more information contact dtoby(at)comcast.net or bhtoby(at)comcast.net.

Join our friendly group to connect with Israeli culture, enjoy some physical activity and sharpen your memory through Israeli folk dancing. We do plenty of circle and line dances, with some partner dances mixed in.

Most of the dances we do are beginner/intermediate level.  All ages and experience levels are welcome, including children accompanied by a parent.

We meet almost every Monday with dances for beginners from 7 pm to 7:45 pm and then move on to intermediate dances until around 8:30. When time permits, we take a few requests from 8:30 to 8:45.  Visitors are always welcome. Our regular dancers love to watch the more advanced dances.  If visiting from out of town, we'll play requests if you tell us ahead of time.

Our partner dance repertoire is small and still growing. Women are encouraged (but not required) to learn both parts. The etiquette in our group is partner switching/partner rotation.

Open to the community. For security purposes, we ask that people joining for the first time contact the CBS office at (630) 961-1818, and ask for Dorothy, to let us know you are coming, and to make sure that we are meeting on that date.

Don't miss the experience of being with young Israeli singers, dancers, and musicians, all of whom are either students or graduates of the Ein Prat Academy for Leadership. The Institution, located just outside Jerusalem, is a unique forum for developing young minds that brings together Jews from all backgrounds for a course of study that turns them into a new generation of Zionist leaders. Their material is primarily pop songs with lyrics centering around the theme of a specific holiday. Attractive, fresh-faced, wholesome and fun-loving, they convey a positive image and clear lyrics conveying Jewish content that feels like a sort of contemporary Jewish "Free to be You and Me." The Fountainheads have succeeded in creating a sort of video midrash that has made their material a useful educational aide in the classroom. Their performance is engaging and appropriate for audiences of all ages, including children, young families, and teens.
