Here is Victor Gabbay's classic, Al Gvul Hayam Ha'acharon.

You can likely find a video with Victor himself on Rokdim, but this video is pretty accurate.

Here is Matanot Ktanot, a beautiful piece of music, dance by Gadi.

For those who try to find Israeli dance videos on line, I wanted to make sure you know that you can find many of them at:
http://www.rokdim.co.il/rikudim/chipusRikudimOL.asp
You can watch the whole video there on the site. And if you want to download it, you can make arrangements to purchase it there. I do believe that for the most part, once a dance makes it on to the Rokdim site, it is less likely to change than dances published only in other places. This is not an absolute rule of the universe, but in general I believe it is so. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of this resource.
As always, enjoy!

Join our friendly group to connect with Israeli culture, enjoy some physical activity and sharpen your memory through Israeli folk dancing. We do plenty of circle and line dances, with some partner dances mixed in.
Most of the dances we do are beginner/intermediate level. All ages and experience levels are welcome, including children accompanied by a parent.
We meet almost every Monday with dances for beginners from 7 pm to 7:45 pm and then move on to intermediate dances until around 8:30. When time permits, we take a few requests from 8:30 to 8:45. Visitors are always welcome. Our regular dancers love to watch the more advanced dances. If visiting from out of town, we'll play requests if you tell us ahead of time.
Our partner dance repertoire is small and still growing. Women are encouraged (but not required) to learn both parts. The etiquette in our group is partner switching/partner rotation.
Open to the community. For security purposes, we ask that people joining for the first time contact the CBS office at (630) 961-1818, and ask for Dorothy, to let us know you are coming, and to make sure that we are meeting on that date.

The Champions Of Israeli Folk Dancing - The Results
|
BEST OF LUCK TO BRURIA AND YORAM WHO WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE NORTH AMERICAN FINALS AT RIKUD THIS WEEKEND!!! WE KNOW YOU WILL DO US PROUD.
Well, after lots of discussion both in public and in private, Chicago Israeli Dancing held our event at our session.
Here are some quick points for you.
- The event was clearly successful
- We held it on a monthly party night, and right before we started the contest, we held a surprise celebration in honor of Penny Brichta for her 25 years as a co-leader of Chicago Israeli Dancing. She and the crowds loved. Go Penny! So the mood was good from the start.
- The winner of the circles category was Bruria Kohen. Mazal Tov Bruria!
- The winners of the partner category were Bruria Kohen and Yoram Danino. Mazal Tov!
- Sadly, but understandably, no out-of-towners from other midwestern Israeli dance groups were on hand.
The mood seemed very upbeat throughout. The judges were Sarah Rodin and Irit Steiner, two veteran, excellent Israeli dancers. They did a great job of figuring out who should be the semi-finalists and finalists. And our entire crowd voted (via "applauseometer") to select the winners. IMHO, good decisions were made by all.
As per the plan, we conducted a more or less regular harkada, alternating between circle and partner sets like we usually do. The dances themselves were initially old standbys and they became more challenging and a little more current as the sets progressed.
As I had hoped, people kind of helped each other by being visible for "follow me Joe" purposes. The mood was light. I did not sense that anyone was being cutthroat about all this. A number of people told me that they enjoyed it. A few others told me they were skeptical prior to the event, but pleased with the way it worked out.
If there were negative feelings or comments out there, they have did not reach me yet. Perhaps they will. At the end of the day, two of our people are getting scholarships to Rikud with a chance to win a trip to Israel. And Chicago Israeli Dancing had a good night.
I am still hoping that some of you will consider this for your local sessions.
Phil Moss

To all the madrichim and dancers:
We have a fantastic festival coming up with Gadi Bitton and Elad Shtamer. We also have Avihu Medina who will be with us throughout the festival as we dance to his songs. Nona Malki and Karina Lambert will be with us this year as well.
For those who can stay a longer period of time in Toronto, we are planning a pre-festival dance evening on Thursday, June 26th and a post festival bar-b-que and dance evening on Monday, June 30th.
Plan to be with us.
We would be most appreciative if you would pass this information on to your fellow dancers and send the attached flyer to your distribution lists.
See you in Toronto!
Sofie & Inbal
