Engaging the Divine Feminine:
Patience, Alignment, and Divine Timing
|
In this time of cell phones and social media, patience seems to have become a lost art, as everyone seeks instant gratification. And why wait, when we can have everything NOW? We have instagram, instant texts, instant access to everyone we know. And why wait to get the latest high-tech gadget or toy, when we have credit cards that provide instant access to a world of electronics and consumer goods?
Many of us even expect our lives to fall into place as instantly and perfectly as everything else, as we “work” our five-year plans. We see TV shows where all the trauma and drama is neatly resolved and wrapped up in an hour or half-hour, so we get the idea that will happen in our own lives.
We have all been taught that we not only can control everything, but we must. And we are told to just go out there and “make it happen,” whatever desire “it” happens to be at any given moment. And that’s just the mainstream message. On the metaphysical side, we are learning that we create our own reality, and we're told we can have it all, merely by envisioning what we want and focusing on it.
So… how’s that been working for you? Did it ever really work that way, or is this all just a popular myth that keeps us feeling powerless and depressed when it doesn’t work?
Many of us have learned (or are learning) the hard way that "going out there and making things happen" no longer works the way it once did, or the way we thought it was supposed to or we hoped it would. We follow the rules, but the promised rewards don’t show up. Despite all of our best efforts, that wonderful job, promotion, or raise may not be forthcoming. Finding “that special someone” may elude us. Making time for all the things we want to do in our daily lives may be an exercise in futility.
Our plans, no matter how carefully and fondly crafted, often fall apart as life presents us with other surprises. That does not mean we are failures, but it can leave us feeling that way: frustrated, at best; and demoralized, powerless, and defeated, at worst.
And when we do manage to slog ahead and reach that carefully planned goal? All too often, we find we are disappointed. We “made it happen,” but it is an empty victory, because what we thought we wanted so much wasn’t really right for us. Sometimes we are luckier when the Universe “saves us from ourselves,” and we do NOT get what we wanted!
Whether we like it or not, the “old ways” no longer work, and the “new ways” have not reached the mainstream yet, because the mainstream is in denial. Even the “new way” of envisioning and creating isn’t working so well for most people, because it, too, relies on our "making it happen." Same church, different pew! Sorry!
What we’re seeing is the end of the overbalance of the Divine Masculine principle, and what we’ve created with that isn’t pretty! Fortunately, the energies of the Divine Feminine principle are coming in, to bring us back to true balance. This is not about men and women, per se. It is about the Masculine and Feminine energies and principles, which exist in both men and women, and work best when balanced internally.
The pendulum swung too far to one side for several centuries, with our devotion to hierarchy and external authority, our single-minded embrace of the rational/scientific, and our disdain of intuition and the natural rhythms and cycles. We stopped trusting ourselves and the Universe, fell into fear and cut off our access to Divine Guidance, decided that there isn't enough (of anything), and relied on strength (or intimidation or deviousness) to "beat others out" and "get our share" (often with lofty justifications for doing so). And as we lost our connection to our Higher/Inner Selves and the All—as we ran in circles chasing after what we were told and thought we needed—we lost our joy and our peace.
And now we have the opportunity to individually and collectively learn to bring the Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine back into balance.
The Divine Masculine energies are exemplified by initiating action and imposing our will onto the environment to create what we want, through conscious willful control by the mind and the ego: "Get out there and make it happen." When we over-emphasize these energies, we rely solely on the mind, the body, and the five senses, and we disdain anything we can’t prove or see. When we over-emphasize these energies, we worship the god of the mind and ego, we fall into an "us vs. them" mentality, and we forget that there is so much more to Who We Are than just our human expressions.
The Divine Feminine energies are exemplified by intuition, tuning into our hearts, allowing, and receiving. The Feminine energies encourage us to live in harmony with each other and nature and in tune with the natural cycles of growth, expansion, and contraction. They encourage respect for all life, and collaboration over competition. In these energies, we recognize our inner connection to All That We Are and the All That Is.
Both of these Divine Energies are important and necessary, in both men and women, and when one is emphasized to the exclusion of the other—for individuals or for a society—it cuts us off from at least half of ourselves, half of our abilities, half of our resources. It makes everything harder. Think of it as going through life using only the left or only the right half of your brain. Exclusion of one also allows for the marginalization of the qualities of the “other” and sets us up for abuse of power.
As the Chinese yin and yang symbol shows, these seemingly opposite energies and principles are complementary and interdependent, and they work best when used together, in balance, each in its appropriate way. Without one or the other, the circle is incomplete, as are we.
So what does this have to do with patience? Everything!
We are human beings, not human doings. It is only when we stop constantly trying to control everything and “make” things happen—engaging only our minds, egos, and wills—that we can allow ourselves to access the magic of the Universe. When we give equal time to being receptive, to “being” rather than always doing, we shift from trying to create, alone, through the ego and the will to co-creating with our Higher Selves and the Universe. We realize that we don’t have to do it all ourselves, alone; we can trust the Universe to assist us.
This does not come easy to those who were raised in a world that disdains the Feminine, receptive aspects, and exalts the Masculine, will-and-control aspects. We have been taught to trust only ourselves and, as a result, learning to trust the Universe to work with us can feel like we are giving up control and going without a safety net. Oddly enough, trusting the Universe IS the safety net! Many of us were taught to ask for help through prayer, but we weren't taught how to listen for the answer. Many of us were taught to pray and wait for the Divine to do it for us. Sorry! The Universe/Divine works with us, and not for us!
Patience is a major element in the implementation and expression of the Divine Feminine receptive energy. It goes hand-in-hand with trust, and it enables us to wait for alignment, wait for Divine timing. When we are only engaging our ego and will, we cannot ascertain when the perfect alignment, timing, or path arrives to achieve our goals. We charge ahead, fueled by our determination and desire, guided by what our limited mind thinks. We may achieve our goal, but it may be far harder than it has to be, and it may not end up nearly as well as we’d hoped… because the alignment wasn’t there, or the timing wasn’t right, or there really was something better out there that we didn’t know about. . . but we couldn’t wait to find out.
Think of it this way: Your goal is to drive to the top of the mountain in your truck, but when you arrive at the bottom of the mountain, you are out of gas. It’s nighttime, and the gas station is closed. You have a choice: You can charge ahead and push that truck up the mountain, or you can wait until morning when the gas station opens, fill up, and drive up. Even better, the gas station might not open, but you then "happen" to hitch a ride with the person you were meant to spend your life with, or the person who will hire you for a more perfect job than you could ever imagine. Whether you charge ahead or wait till morning, you can reach the top of the mountain. You can do it the hard way or the easy way. Engaging patience and the Divine Feminine energies is always the easier way and creates a much better “tailored for you” result.
When we balance and use both the Divine Masculine and Feminine energies, this is what it looks like: After we engage the Masculine energies of setting our intention and taking appropriate action to initiate the process (for example, identifying the type of job we want and sending out resumes or applying online), patience is the “Pause” button that we press to engage the Feminine energies and our “unseen” helpers. Having done what we can (yes, it does require effort on our part to create what we want), we rest in patience, trusting and allowing the Universe to respond to what we have initiated, and to bring us the guidance and opportunities we need.
Alignment comes when everything is lined up and ready for us, and we feel that inner directive, NOW! When we wait for alignment and Divine Timing, everything falls into place like dominoes. It almost feels like Moses and the parting of the Red Sea: We move into the “flow,” and all obstacles fall out of the way.
It can be tricky and difficult to wait for alignment, because Divine Timing usually takes longer than we want to wait, and we allow our minds/egos to urge us to move ahead prematurely or to pursue something that’s not really right for us, because we "have to do something." But when we truly engage patience and the Divine Feminine energies, we wait expectantly for the Universe to do its part, alert to the promptings and inner whispers that lead us in the right direction. Alignment and Divine Timing cannot be forced or created from our minds or egos. We must wait and tune inside to find them.
If we are busy running around complaining that we haven’t gotten what we want yet, or if we look only for an outcome that appears a certain way (a particular job at a particular place), we are likely to miss those all-important nudges and whispers that the Divine Feminine and the All That Is provide. We are likely to miss the perfect answer to our quest, an answer that is even better than what we initially imagined.
So how do those nudges and whispers show up? The Universe and our Higher/Inner Self can speak to us in so many ways: through friends and loved ones, the dialogue or story line in a TV show or movie, a magazine article, an ad on the side of a bus, the words on a billboard, an idea that floats quietly into our minds, a perfect synchronicity or “coincidental” meeting, or a lightning bolt of inspiration. Whether it comes as an “Aha” moment or a quiet inner knowing, it will reveal new actions or directions for us to pursue, or provide a new perspective on something we’ve already rejected or overlooked because it didn’t fit our idea or expectation.
It takes a lot of practice to learn to listen to and recognize the whispers and subtle nudges. And there will be trial and error in learning to distinguish the “small voice within” from the chatter of the mind and ego. But with practice, it becomes easier, and the results reinforce the effort.
And patience is the first step. If we don’t hit the “Pause” button, we won’t be receptive to the guidance. We can pray nonstop for what we want, but if we don’t hit the “Pause” button at some point, we won’t be able to receive the answer, because the “line” will be busy! Patience, tuning in, and paying attention are crucial to beautiful co-creation.
The second step is trusting, and that takes just as much practice. When we trust, we know that the Universe is helping us, and we don’t have to do it all ourselves. When we trust, we know that everything is going to work out, even if we can’t see how that could happen. We move out of the fear and despair that cut us off and shut us down, and we can finally receive the assistance we desire and need. We realize that we can’t see all the options from our limited mind-perspective, and we trust that the Universe will provide whatever we need to move forward to more joy.
We also must learn to trust ourselves. To really follow the guidance we receive, we must stop judging ourselves, or we'll talk ourselves out of it. The ego/mind will criticize and judge when it loses control. Have you ever put off going to the post office to mail a package, only to find out a day or two later that you have something else to mail, too? That “procrastination” that you beat yourself up about was really an inner knowing that the timing wasn’t right, and you saved yourself from making two trips!
Nature shows us that there is always a rhythm of in and out, give and take, expansion and contraction. And most progress occurs in a zig-zag or meandering way, rather than in the straight line that our minds and egos prefer. It is the natural order of things. And we are, in fact, part of Nature, part of the All. Our minds and egos simply do not have all the answers, no matter how much we would like to believe they do. When we operate from dominance of the Masculine, too often we prevent ourselves from taking advantage of the Divine Guidance that is available until we have been so beaten down that we throw up our hands, admit defeat, and Surrender! (And if that's what it takes, the Universe will provide an opportunity for that, too, in order to get through to us!)
The Divine Feminine energies are bathing the planet now, showing us that there is, in fact, an easier way! We don’t have to be beaten down and surrender before we get help and guidance. We just have to be patient, trust, and open up to receive what is always there for the taking asking. But we have to get our egos and minds back into proper perspective to do that, and we do have to ASK! The Divine Feminine offers us the opportunity to restore our connection to our Higher/Inner Selves and the Universe/All That Is, and to allow the Divine to work with us and through us.
It is time to bring these energies into balance and start using all of the resources available to us for creating the life that we want… if only because it’s just plain easier and better that way!

The Universe
Used Me as the
"Bad Example"!
|
A funny thing happened as I was writing this month’s issue of Tunnel Vision (er, it was supposed to be last month’s issue). For some reason, the article didn’t flow as it usually does, but came in fits and starts. Sometimes I would get only a paragraph or two, and then the idea would just evaporate. I was getting pretty frustrated. And when my computer started acting up, too, I started getting really irritated!
As the last days of May passed, and I knew I would be missing my “deadline,” I became, well, extremely impatient! That seemed a bit ironic, since my topic was Patience!
I tried forcing myself to write, but the article was stilted and awkward, and I finally had to admit that I’d rather have a good article go out “late” than have a mediocre article go out “on time.”
After a couple of days of walking around muttering under my breath, cajoling my Guides, and bargaining unsuccessfully with the Universe, I finally just gave up and ungraciously accepted that I would finish my article when I finished it, and not a minute sooner.
At some point I realized that this article was not just about patience, it was about much more. It seemed to be evolving on its own, bringing in issues of the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine, and issues of the fundamental processes of co-creating our reality with the Universe in Divine Collaboration.
I did laugh out loud when it finally dawned on me that, yet again, my Higher Self, my Guides, and the Universe were having a little joke on me. They come up with some creative ways to show me what I'm doing to myself! That’s just the kind of relationship I have with them, and I actually enjoy and appreciate it. I find it really helps to be able to laugh at times like these—especially at myself!
My process of writing this article—ostensibly on patience—had become the perfect illustration, up-close and personal, of what I was really supposed to be writing about!
I had started the process by deciding on a topic and starting to write. Because I had a self-imposed deadline, and I had been unusually busy with other things, I got caught up in my mind and ego, and in the “urgency” of that deadline. The more I felt that deadline looming, the more I tried to force my article onto paper. The more I tried to force it, the harder it got! DUH!
When I finally hit the “Pause” button (well, actually, when I got beaten down, admitted defeat, and surrendered!), I relaxed, let go, and gave it a rest for a day or two. When I stopped pushing, I got in tune with my inner wisdom and Higher Self, and allowed new, deeper ideas to flow into my mind. When it felt like it was “time” to write again, those ideas started flowing effortlessly onto the paper.
When I let go of the deadline and my mind’s limited idea of what the article should be about, I was able to go with the Flow, wait for Alignment and Divine Timing, and let the ideas evolve.
As a result of engaging both the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine, in balance, I ended up with a much richer article to share... and a perfect (and personal) example of how the process works (and how it sometimes doesn’t)!
When we can take a step back and look at what is working and what isn’t working in our lives, we can get a glimpse at our own process and how well we are engaging the Divine Masculine and the Divine Feminine. We can see whether we are using them both, in balance, to co-create with the Universe and the All That Is, or whether we are falling back on old habits of “going it alone” and "forcing the issue" that no longer work.
Next time you notice that something you are trying to do isn’t flowing easily (or at all, no matter what you do), and it's starting to feel like you’re pushing a truck up a mountain (that’s the biggest clue!), hit that “Pause” button and take a look at what you’re doing and what you forgot to do. Engage the Divine Feminine and open to receive the assistance that is right there, waiting for you. And don’t forget to laugh!

Mars Goes Direct and Mercury Goes Retrograde!
|
Mars finally went direct on May 19, after being retrograde since March 1. If you'd been feeling for a few months like your get-up-and-go got up and went, you should be feeling a bit of relief and new-found vigor as it regains momentum and Mars' famous initiating energies are unfettered again.
Mercury went retrograde again on June 7 and will remain so until July 1. Mercury retrograde has a bad reputation, due to its tendency to create computer glitches and crashes, delays, crossed wires, misunderstandings, and messed-up travel plans. It has many good qualities, though, as long as we use its energies to go back and review and redo things. Find out more about Mercury retrograde in the second article in the October 2013 issue of Tunnel Vision.
Since the beginning of the year, all the personal planets—those that are closest to Earth and have an impact on our daily lives—have taken turns going retrograde. Mercury is the last of them and, when it goes direct on July 1, we will have a break from all that enforced review and introspection.
