Dr. Ellin, at the Campo Rico Veterinary Clinic is again carrying a new balance for us of more than $2000. If you can help us pay down our balance with him, we will be able to rescue more babies in need. They accept credit card payments over the phone at 787-768-6099. Though his clinic is small, both he and Dr Diaz Umpierre (whose number is 787-763-2584) are so helpful to us by giving us discounts and allowing us to hold a balance with them. ADLA SPAY DAYS!!!
Thursday, November 6 at 8 am we had planned our next Low Cost Spay Day for the residents of Piñones with Cruz Mobile Veterinary Clinic. We will not be able to include the neighbors now for lack of funds but we have received help from Project Animal Worldwide and from Pet SOS so we will be able to sterilize at least our 10 last rescued animals here and get them their vaccinations. I am so sorry that we could not open it up this time to the residents here who count on this activity when it occurs. We thank Dr Jose Cruz and his amazing team for all they do to help the animals and rescuers on this island. Since October 2013, Dr. Cruz has sterilized 350 animals for low income residents in ADLA 'Piñones Spay Days'. Through donations from Project Animal Worldwide, Pet SOS and other generous organization friends and donors, ADLA has been able to pay for the procedures while most residents donate a minimum fee to cover shots and checkups. |

A Personal Thank You from Me

I am deeply grateful to the faculty, teachers and parents of St. Johns' School in San Juan, Puerto Rico for encouraging and allowing their teenagers to volunteer with us here at our shelter. These kids are amazing and have worked hard (requiring lots of muscle power), on their Saturday mornings from 9 o'clock am, and have helped in every way.
We have students like Ramon Lee from American Military Academy who is always counted as 'Present' who plans to be a veterinarian and so, he WILL be, a dynamic vet at that. He has great leadership skills and learns quick while he helps wherever he's needed.
Throughout the past four years, many of our teenage volunteers have been stars in completing and surpassing their community service hours out of their love for the animals and the knowledge that they ARE really helping them. I have watched future leaders like Jenny Schub, Evalise Dexter and Natalia Melchor and her friends from Baldwin help blossom our mission.
I'm so grateful to be a part of planting seed in our community and I'm happy to see the kids having fun while working their 'tushes' off here!! Other Schools at the for-front in teaching their students the meaning of 'Giving Back' are Baldwin School, American Military Academy and Commonwealth High School. If you would like your school to participate in community service hours with us or you want to volunteer during the school year, or as part of your summer activities, we can always use a helping hand because our work here is 24/7. An appeal to friends and supporters-
|
Our organization is currently in a dire situation. We have many dogs to sterilize, high balances with our vets, a leg operation, it's time to re- vaccinate most of our kids and because of a steep jump in utility prices in Puerto Rico, we are behind on our utility bills. We are way behind on our electricity and our only vehicle broke down again, so I am stuck here without any transportation and if there is an emergency, we cannot handle it.
 Lucy and I are reaching out to ask you to please help us in whatever way you can. Our FaceBook page currently has over a quarter of a million "likes". And there are more than 10,000 of you readers who receive this newsletter. If just half of you were able to donate as little as five dollars, we could very easily make it over this hump. No amount is EVER too small and it WILL be truly appreciated!
Those who work here are volunteers; I'm a volunteer. In the past  7 yrs.
that I've dedicated my home to sheltering our rescued pets, I have never taken a penny from the animals. I have always put my money in when ADLA has none. But it's not enough now. I work 4 nights per week teaching English and as many other nights as possible working as a musician to bring in my own income. There are no employees here. There is a wonderful saint of a helper whom I adore and I pay from my own pocket who helps me keep the doggies in optimal condition, Betsy.
All of us at Amigos de los Animales including our beautiful rescued "kids" are truly grateful for any support you may have given us in the past. Whatever you can do to help us now will not only be appreciated immensely, but will help to insure that we can keep on keeping on for the animals.

She is so cute - I couldn't leave this smiley little girl by the side of the road in pain. Her name is Missy and she's a 15 lb. 9 month old girly girl who will make her future family a perfect pet, once she gets surgery for her leg which is broken in three parts. Her surgery may cost up to a couple $K but we see a happy, pain free future for this petite little girl with your help. Will you help her?
