Joanna Connor :: SIX STRING STORIES
|
|
M.C. Records is thrilled to welcome back The Queen of Blues/Rock guitar Joanna Connor to the label. Six String Stories was released internationally on August 26, her first in 14 years. Joanna will be touring nationally and internationally to support her new recording.
Six String Stories is the one that the fans who pack her hometown gigs have been waiting for. You’ll still hear the scorching solos – but there’s more to Joanna Connor than that. The disc’s ten tracks include tastes of gospel, rock, soul and funk; all with the gutsy singing and heartfelt playing that have always been her trademarks. Connor wrote eight tracks on Six String Stories with Marion Lance Lewis, a mainstay of her live band. "Joanna Connor might be the best – or most original – blues-based slide guitar player you're likely to come across today. Or tomorrow." — Guitar World ...More details about this release here

Bob Seeley :: LET’S BOOGIE!
|
Let’s Boogie! is the sixth of a series of studio and live recordings from one of the world's premier boogie piano players, Bob Seeley. Consisting mostly of standards, all songs here are arranged by Bob Seeley. An inductee to the Boogie Woogie Hall of Fame in Cincinnati, Ohio USA, Bob is a classically-trained pianist whose early discovery of boogie woogie is our blessing. Born and raised in Detroit, he learned boogie, stride, and ragtime from recordings and folios. Among his great influences is Pat Flowers (Fats Waller's protégé) and the boogie pioneer Meade Lux Lewis - one of the three giants of boogie woogie (along with Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson).
Bob was a personal friend of Meade Lux Lewis, having met while Bob was playing one of Lewis’ tunes at a house party. He later was a accompanist of legendary Blues singer Sippie Wallace. As a solo performer, Bob toured throughout Europe, the USA, and Brazil.

David Julia’s "Simple Things"
|
By Peter "Blewzzman" Lauro ©
Guitarist, singer and songwriter David Julia has been performing live since the age of seven and by the age of ten he had a regular Friday night gig at a local club. Simple Things is his first recording and take it from me, there is nothing simple about it. On this five track EP, David wrote four of the songs and he surrounded himself with some of the best players in the business. Joining David Julia on guitar and vocals are: the disc's producer, Mark Telesca (Mark Telesca Band, Blues Dragon & Diunna Greenleaf) on bass; Chris Peet (JP Soars & Southern Hospitality) on drums; and Albert Poliak on Hammond B3 organ. The disc opens with one of David's originals titled "Just A Matter Of Time." It's a hot number about a hot number who caught David's eye. After laying some lines on her he's so sure he'll win her over that he flat out tells her...

At the Daytona Blues Festival, October 7-9, there is too much music for just one stage
|
(Daytona Beach, FL) – While the 7th annual Daytona Blues Festival officially kicks off at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, downtown Daytona Beach, Florida at 2:30 pm Friday, October 7th, the music actually begins at the welcome party, Thursday October 6th, at Bahama Breeze Island Grille. Starting at 8:00 pm, Josh “The Pitbull of Blues” Rowland and his band will get the party started with two free sets for festival attendees. With his band and as a solo act, Josh has been a crowd and judges’ favorite at the IBCs for the past two years. Josh’s fun-loving mix of traditional and original blues is the perfect start to a great weekend of music.
The legendary Friday, October 7th, “Women in Blues” line up has already been highlighted. But those stellar women are not the only music makers Friday. The Riverfront Stage, in its second year, will feature 2016 IBC solo finalist and “Best Guitarist” winner Bing Futch, and 2016 IBC solo/duo winners Ben Hunter and Joe Seamons, keeping the blues flowing between sets.
