Jack Mack & The Heart Attack Horns :: BACK TO THE SHACK
|
|
Jack Mack’s sweet, funky soul music has earned a critically acclaimed 30-year legacy of success in the music business that includes ten records, blockbuster movie soundtracks, and hundreds of global television and stage performances. They've circled the globe performing concerts, clubs, festivals and some of the world's most outrageous private affairs. Their smokin’, Southern-flavored R&B and soul is inspired by the legendary artists who recorded for influential labels such as Stax/Volt and in locations rich in musical history such as Muscle Shoals, with hints of Philadelphia and the Motown sound in the mix as well.
Back to the Shack is their latest album, featuring 10 soulful and bluesy tunes, nine co-written by the band and all performed with a fresh, contemporary approach. ...Read more about this release

Sharon Lewis :: GROWN ASS WOMAN
|
Chicago blues and soul singer Sharon Lewis’ album, Grown Ass Woman on Delmark, features 12 new original songs with special guest appearances by harp legend Sugar Blue and slide guitar queen Joanna Connor. Sharon’s longtime collaborator, guitarist and songwriter Steve Bramer, contributed 6 of the originals.
Grown Ass Woman kicks off with “Can't Do It Like We Do” a tribute to the current Chicago Blues sound and scene. “Hell Yeah!” is a total party jam, there's plenty of soul like “They're Lying” and “Call Home,” and “Freedom” is a timely song which points out that 'freedom cannot be freedom until freedom means freedom for everyone!'
Sharon's commitment to the blues has paid off handsomely, as she's developed into one of Chicago’s hottest blues acts. ...Read more about this release

At 83 and 374 albums later, Bobby Rush wins GRAMMY for Best Traditional Blues Album
|
(Los Angeles, CA) – The 59th GRAMMY Awards were held on Feb 12, 2017, at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Bobby Rush won Best Traditional blues Album for his album Porcupine Meat. “Wow,” Rush exclaimed as he reached the podium with his Grammy in hand,” Thank God, first of all, for letting me be here long enough to get one of these; for Rounder Records; my producer, Scott, Dorothy his lovely wife; my manager, staff, Lo who been with me for 100 years. I said it because this is my 374th record! And finally …and finally, after recording since 1951, I’m so thankful, because I’m 83 years. Thank all the staff at the record company who was so nice to me in doing this. Thank you for voting for me. Thank the Academy for thinking enough of me to put me in the line, because if I didn’t win, I’m still a winner, ‘cause I’m in the line.”
Then, like clockwork from this humble man’s heart he simply says, “All the… the guys that I [beat] out… this to you!” as he raised his GRAMMY up high.
