D.C.-based Soul-Blues band Vintage#18 debuts with their album titled Grit, due for release April 21, 2017. The album reflects the band’s love of classic 60’s Soul and Blues, featuring a mix of originals as well as two covers (ZZ Top and Bob Dylan) and a whole lot of elbow grease. Grit, you might say.
Vintage#18 chose to self-produce Grit, and a framework was in place before most of the album was written. One of the goals when they first started rehearsing was to make sure that the sound didn’t fit solely into a single genre. Blues, Soul and other familiar elements appear but should mix in a way that brings unexpected experiences for listeners and dancers too. This idea worked well in live settings, so the album was approached the same way. If you do it, stay true to it—but you can always do “it” in new ways.

Monster Mike Welch :: RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME
|
With over 25 years under his belt, Boston-based blues guitarist Monster Mike Welch is handily considered a seasoned veteran of the international blues scene at just a mere 37 years old. Adorned with the nickname “Monster Mike” by actor/comedian Dan Aykroyd at the tender age of 13, Welch has since carved out a successful living as a highly accomplished and in-demand guitarist. To date, Welch has released six albums under his own name and in 2001, he joined the ranks of one of New England’s most beloved blues institutions, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones. In addition, Welch has performed and recorded with Duke Robillard, Nick Moss, Johnny Winter, Darrell Nulisch and more recently, the Knickerbocker All-Stars, which has featured among others, Jimmie Vaughan and the aforementioned Robillard. No stranger to the Delta Groove family, Welch also appears on recordings by the Mannish Boys and Sugaray Rayford, as well as playing a central role in the critically acclaimed album, Fifty Shades of Blue, by Anthony Geraci and the Boston Blues All Stars.

John Primer & Bob Corritore ::
AIN’T NOTHING YOU CAN DO
|
In the year 2017, who better to carry forth the Chicago blues beacon other than John Primer and Bob Corritore? Both have pasts steeped in the blues tradition and each has consistently represented their fundamental roots of the Chicago blues idiom throughout their illustrious careers. Individually, Primer and Corritore command a towering presence, but in combination the power of their blues is unstoppable. Their 2013 Delta Groove debut Knockin’ Around These Blues is living testimony to this fact. Enthusiastically received by fans and critics alike, their album debuted at #1 on the April 2013 Living Blues Radio Chart and topped out at #5 on the esteemed magazine’s Radio Chart’s Top 50 Blues Albums for 2013. Additionally, the German-based bluesnews magazine declared it the Best Blues Release of 2013!
In the album’s wake and through the intervening years, the two have remained independently active on the blues circuit and continued to garner awards, nominations and international critical praise.

April 22-23, 2017 Radio Show: Wee Willie Walker
|
Back in the heyday of rhythm and blues, Wee Willie Walker was a dynamic soul and gospel singer. He never caught fire the way some others did. But forty years later he met a couple of fans – who happened to be in the Nightcats. They said, hey, do you want to come to California and make a soul record with us? He said, sure. So… they did.
The one-man soul revival of Wee Willie Walker. Next time in the Bluesmobile.
