Duke Robillard :: BLUES FULL CIRCLE
|
|
Blues Full Circle, from two-time Grammy nominee and multi Blues Music Award winning guitarist Duke Robillard was a 2017 Grammy Nominee for Traditional Blues Album. His last CD, The Acoustic Blues & Roots of Duke Robillard, won Acoustic Album of the Year honors at the 37th Blues Music Awards.
Produced by Robillard and recorded at Lakewest Recording and Duke’s Mood Room, Blues Full Circle showcases his killer guitar tones in a small combo setting, which brings out the power and urgency of the songs. Besides Duke (guitars, vocals) the “all-star combo” includes Bruce Bears (piano, Hammond organ); Brad Hallen (acoustic and electric bass); and Mark Teixeira (drums).
Special guests on this album include the legendary Jimmie Vaughan, who double-teams with Duke on the appropriately-titled guitar instrumental extravaganza, “Shufflin’ and Scufflin’.” Sugar Ray & the Bluetones lead singer Sugar Ray Norcia adds his trademark pleading vocals to the jumping “Last Night;” and the multi-talented Kelley Hunt sings and plays piano...

The Blues are back at RiverEdge Park June 16-17
|
(Aurora, IL) - Blues on the Fox, June 16-17, presents Jonny Lang, Mavis Staples and more in Aurora, Illinois. On Friday, June 16, the women are bringing the heat, Mavis Staples and Shemekia Copeland. On Saturday, June 17, the guys come out to play and include Jonny Lang, Elvin Bishop, Devon Allman and Guy King Band.
There was no way to know the ground-breaking impact musicians John Lee “Sonny Boy” Williamson, Tampa Red, Big Bill Broonzy and others would have when they sat down to record their incredible sound at the Leland Hotel in downtown Aurora in the 1930s. As soon as those guitar strings were plucked and their soulful voices filled the air, everything we knew about blues was changed forever, and Blues on the Fox celebrates that monumental piece of history. ...Find more about Blues on The Fox

(Dana Point, CA) – Whether soaking in the top-notch entertainment on the Back Porch Stage, the two main stages, or perusing the food court, the unique craft booths, stretching out on the sprawling lawns, watching the swaying palm trees, basking in the warm weather or reveling in the friendly blues camaraderie, there was something for everyone at the Doheny Blues Festival May 20-21 at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California. Revisiting a Music Legacy …American Classics Recut at Sam Phillips’ Historic Memphis Studios
|
(Memphis, TN) - Red Hot: A Memphis Celebration of Sun Records is a jubilant, homegrown album honoring the legacy of the tiny independent label that changed the face of popular music.
All proceeds from the Americana Music Society release, due June 16, 2017, will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases
The collection is co-produced by singer-guitarist Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars, and Tamara Saviano, the Nashville-based writer-producer and author of Without Getting Killed or Caught: The Life and Music of Guy Clark. A cast of roots music notables celebrates the work of Sam Phillips, an inaugural Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee who founded his Sun label in 1952.
Red Hot was recorded at the two legendary Memphis recording studios operated by Phillips — the humble Sun Studio, opened in 1950 as Memphis Recording Service, and the futuristic Sam Phillips Recording Service...

Mississippi Blues Marathon needs sponsorships to make it to Year 11
|
By Rick Cleveland/Special to the Sun Herald (Jackson, MS) - Jackson’s highly acclaimed Mississippi Blues Marathon, which annually draws thousands of participants from all 50 states and several foreign countries, has been running for 10 years.
There might not be an 11th, and that, for my money, would be a shame.
The race, which celebrates Mississippi, Jackson and blues music, is seeking a sponsor or sponsors. Without it, the event will not continue.
“We need corporate support; it’s that simple,” said John Noblin, one of the race’s co-founders and its director for the past decade.
Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi, which has been the event’s sponsor for all 10 years, has shifted its focus — and its sponsorship dollars — to a statewide “Get Ready to Run” youth running program.
