A Musical ATV Ride with Lee Tafari: Acoustic-to-Vinyl
|
(6/24/17 @Cooper’s, Nevada City, CA)
review and photos by Anthony Postman
I finally caught up with a night of music that I’ve been curious and fascinated by since first hearing about it: Lee Tafari, and his Acoustic-to-Vinyl (ATV) night. In this lineup, Lee sings vocals with acoustic guitar, and also selects vinyl favorites. A simple and direct format that I am surprised to have only seen now: you would think more people would be doing this! But I would say that few people would be able to move smoothly from singing and playing to DJing, all while bringing enthusiasm and vitality to the music, as does Lee Tafari.

Community Magic: GrassRoots, the Nationally Prominent, Non-Commercial Music Festival, Makes Music out of Community, and Community out of Music
|
The volunteer-powered Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival of Music and Dance has constantly fed and nurtured its roots: bringing artists deeper into community, and bringing the community together with the arts. This massive artistic endeavor sprang from an unlikely source: A group of old-time musicians, horrified by the lackluster reaction of authorities to the AIDS crisis. They held a wildly successful benefit, one night back in 1990.

Peter Tosh's son beaten into coma while in N.J. jail, family says
|
HACKENSACK -- The family of the late reggae icon Peter Tosh wants the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate after they claim his son was beaten into a coma while he was being held in the Bergen County Jail.
In 2013, Jawara McIntosh, now 37, was arrested after police found more than 65 pounds of marijuana hidden in the trunk of a rented car he was driving.

The Reggae on the River Experience: Music, Nature, Multimedia,
Non Profit Giving
|
![rfg](https://media.jbanetwork.com/image/cache/2/4/7/8/1/0/6_w600_h401_s1.jpg)
The 33rd Reggae on the River presented as a fundraiser for the non-profit Mateel Community Center, takes place August 3-6th at French’s Camp in southern Humboldt county, 10 miles south of Garberville along the banks of the Eel river. After the epic rainfall this past winter, the river is in great health and the rainwater catchment installed in 2016 makes Reggae the first water neutral/positive event of its kind. During the festival, once the sun canopy is lifted on stage, 16x9 foot digital display walls and video projections enhance the sound experience for audience members. Internal bike and van shuttles are available onsite to move gear and festival goers to and from the festival bowl to campsites and late night activities. For campers, the festival allows the opportunity to work together toward global community building, creating connections that are local and global. Bring a new or used tool for Tools For Change a Mateel Community Center program that shares tools with villages in Burkina Faso. All of the food booths at the festival partner with non-profit organizations to donate a portion of their proceeds. To purchase 3 or 4 tickets, Premier camping and Ambassador passes which donate 10% towards global charities, visit website or call 707-923-3368. |

If you wish, and we really wish you wouldn't, like to be removed from this list, please reply with REMOVE in subject line.
It will make us very sad if you do, and perhaps your removal will be the one the makes us decide this no longer worth doing at all, and all the information we provide will go away forever and musicians will sit home alone at night and cry because they have no one to play for because no one knows about their shows.
