Gina Sicilia :: TUG OF WAR
|
|
Dynamic blues singer-songwriter Gina Sicilia creates a deeply soulful new album – the emotionally honest, smartly arranged Tug of War. The album celebrates Gina Sicilia’s status as one of the reigning voices in modern blues and marks a potent evolution in her songwriting. The 11-song set is Sicilia’s seventh release since her emergence as a doyenne of the genre a decade ago. Today, Sicilia’s experience and the fully realized powers of her warm, flexible, emotionally nuanced singing resonate like never before. Produced by Grammy-winning producer Glenn Barratt and Grammy-nominated producer Dave Darling.
Tug of War’s title alludes to the complexities of life, which ring throughout this album’s original tracks, mostly written by Sicilia. And it speaks of her own experiences. “I’ve been through a lot in the past three years,” she relates.

The Smoke Wagon Blues Band :: CIGAR STORE
|
Cigar Store features 50 minutes of new blues classics with tales of the Yukon, New Orleans, voodoo, the underground railroad, lost loves, and even moonshining. Classic R&B, stomping swamp boogies, and new edge barn burners will get you on your feet and remind you of a time when storytelling and music were at the forefront of history.
Featuring whiskey stained soul vocals, funky blues harmonica, slick R&B/roots guitar, swinging piano work, soulful organ, riveting saxophone with a racy, taut rhythm section, The Smoke Wagon Blues Band has been performing in clubs and on festival stages for two decades.
Formed in 1996, the band became crowd favorites in Hamilton, Ontario’s famous Hess Village. Six independent releases, international radio play, and a large local fan base propelled the band to venues across the continent.

Some of the talented artists appearing over Saturday and Sunday are Lil Ed & the Blues Imperials, Grady Champion, Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Little Jimmy Reed, Southern Soul Review featuring Johnny Rawls, Blues Boy Willie & Linwood Taylor, The Kimbrough Brothers, The Oakland Blues Divas and many, many more (lineup subject to change). This little town of African-American's, who migrated here from the deep south, was one of the proving grounds for many blues musicians. Bluesman Mark Telesca can use some kindness right now
|
Al Poliak from The Funky Biscuit has set up a "YouCaring" page (similar to Go Fund Me) to help with medical and living expenses for our good friend Mark Telesca. He has been forced to cancel all of his gigs for June, July and most of August. He has not worked very much since early March and really needs some assistance.
Mark had emergency surgery in early March and was diagnosed with a form of cancer called Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. After recovering from surgery, he had to begin chemotherapy treatments. Mark continued to work until he had a serious setback in the beginning of May. He ended up back in the hospital with another serious condition due to an infection and had to spend four days in quarantine. After that, his doctors advised him to stay home and stay away from crowds. As a full-time musician, Mark will not be able to work until his chemo treatments are completed. He could use your help with medical bills and living expenses. Please donate if you can, it is much appreciated.
