The Roof Comes off the Church
Or how I realized the importance of music ministry.
In 1974, after I had graduated from the U of Rochester I took a job playing the organ at Trinity Lutheran Church on Grand Island, between Buffalo and Niagara Falls. On Easter Sunday the church was packed. We were in the midst of the magnificent hymn “Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones” and a thought crossed my mind that in a way I was driving the bus and if I messed up it would not be good! I immediately determined that I would do my absolute best to support the congregation. At that moment my perception shifted and I sensed a huge power of Light uplifting all of us to the extent that the very roof of the church disappeared in my awareness! I hung in there for the rest of the service experiencing the joy of serving.
