Lurrie Bell :: CAN'T SHAKE THIS FEELING
|
|
One of the greatest living legends of the blues, Lurrie Bell, showcases all the passion, depth, rawness and uniqueness on Can’t Shake This Feeling. This is a followup recording to his multiple award-winning Delmark CD, from 2013, Blues is My Soul. Motivated by his 2013 Blues Music Award for "Song of The Year" for the title track from that album, Lurrrie had a hand in writing five of the thirteen tracks on Can’t Shake This Feeling. "Driftin'", "One Eyed Woman", "Hold Me Tight", "Sinner's Prayer", "Do You Hear", "Born With The Blues", "Hidden Charms" and more.
Lurrie’s deep, emotive singing and head-turning, passionate guitar playing keep him at the top of many real deal Chicago blues lists.
Can’t Shake This Feeling features his ace working band of drummer Willie “The Touch” Hayes, keyboard-whiz “Mad Hatter” Purifoy and frequent collaborator Matthew Skoller (on harp), as well as the blues prowess of Grammy award-winning producer/historian Dick Shurman.

Mike Zito :: MAKE BLUES NOT WAR
|
Make Blues Not War (Ruf Records) is blues guitar gunslinger Mike Zito’s second studio album since leaving the mighty Royal Southern Brotherhood (Cyril Neville, Devon Allman, Yonrico Scott, Charlie Wooton). It’s his 13th album overall and perhaps the most energetic of the bunch. “ Make Blues Not War is a really fun album,” he says, “chock-full of blues with lots of guitar playing. It’s a very upbeat record with intense energy. Blues should make you feel good, and I think this record serves the purpose well.” That atmosphere of positivity began at the album sessions, as Mike tracked alongside Grammy Award-winning producer (and co-writer) Tom Hambridge at the Sound Stage Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.
“It was so much fun,” Zito remembers. “It’s a completely live album, where the musicians all set up and we just hit record and went for it. The energy was awesome and sometimes we’d just be laughing so hard because it was all so intense and exciting.” ...Find more about this CD and the artist

Farewell Friends from Elwood’s Bluesmobile
|
Greetings Citizens, Elwood Blues, your musical chauffeur, here.
The BluesMobile began life as the House of Blues Radio Hour, way back in 1993. Over the years we moved from the house to the road, but the mission was always the same: showcase the best in blues, blues-rock, roots music, R&B, soul, jazz, straight up rock… and all points in between.
I put the spotlight on new releases from old favorites and newbies. I played the crusty, the fresh, the seasoned, and the raw, featuring wide-ranging interviews with the musicians themselves, and many live in-house concerts, recorded exclusively for the BluesMobile.
I now give thanks to the stations, the sponsors, affiliates, producers, managers, agents, and all those hard workers who put the “business” in show business, and bigger thanks to all the players and fans who keep the show going. This series, alas, has gone as far as it can go. Our final broadcast will be July 30, 2017. ...Read entire farewell from Elwood and also C.C. Rider

The (2nd) 7th Annual Daytona Blues Festival, October 6-8, 2017
|
(Daytona Beach, Florida) - When Hurricane Matthew took a turn and began heading directly toward Daytona Beach last October, the organizers of the Daytona Blues Festival had to make a hard call. In the interest of the safety of our guests, talent and volunteers, we had to cancel the festival. This cancellation was indeed necessary, as the area experienced sustained hurricane winds Friday, October 7 (the scheduled first day of the festival) which knocked out power, downed trees, and forced a mandatory evacuation of the beachside. On Saturday, October 8, the festivals venue, Jackie Robinson Ballpark, was under water with major damage and no power. And many of the beachside hotels used by our many out-of-town visitors did not reopen for months.
When the scheduled artists were contacted and told of the cancellation, almost all asked to be invited back for 2017.
Artists will include Victor Wainwright, Joe Louis Walker, Marcia Ball, Shakura S’Aida, Carolyn Wonderland, and Tinsley Ellis.

"...Stand-out vocals from singer Robbin Kapsalis, a lady who has a powerful probing voice and range steeped in southern blues and soul quality...In truth, this is a rock-solid album, bursting with Memphis soul, Stax and Chess-inspired tradition and history..."
Blues Magazine (The Netherlands) July 10, 2017 "...Although this outfit is undoubtedly a blues band, they have a distinctively individual sound, based around Bill Holter’s original guitar work..." Blues In the South, July 7, 2017 "...This less-is-more formula draws all the more attention to the cut-above quality of the band-penned material found throughout the set..." Roots Music Report, April 29, 2017 D.C.-based Soul Blues Band Vintage#18 makes an impressive debut with their album Grit. Their album hit the Roots Music Report’s Soul Blues Album Chart at #5, and as of this writing has stayed in the Top 3 for ten weeks and counting. ...Find pics and more about Vintage#18
