Sept. 9 & 10 The Russian River Jazz & Blues Festival  will be held in scenic river town
(Guerneville, CA) – For the last 41 years, the Russian River Jazz & Blues Festival has welcomed world-class musicians to the scenic river town of Guerneville, and this year’s lineup continues that tradition. The 2017 festival will take place on Sept. 9 & 10, and feature an incredible mix of jazz, blues, soul and funk music, including hit-making songstress Stephanie Mills, East Bay legends Tower of Power, blues guitar powerhouse Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band, lead singer from Mint Condition Stokley, Bay Area festival favorites Con Brio, smooth jazz supergroup West Coast Jam with Richard Elliot, Rick Braun and Norman Brown, and many more artists. Tickets are on sale now at the website.

“We are thrilled with this year’s lineup and know that fans of the festival will be partying at Johnson’s Beach in September,” noted festival producer Rich Sherman. “All of these artists are known for their incredible live shows, so the energy will be soaring in Guerneville!

The journey begins along San Francisco's dazzling skyline and continues out to the Golden Gate Bridge, past Alcatraz, around Treasure Island and under the Bay Bridge before returning to Pier 3 on Embarcadero. Cruise for a Cause is hosted by the San Francisco Housing Development Corporation (SFHDC) and produced by Velma Landers. The event will launch SFHDC’s Artists Housing Fund, an initiative dedicated to providing affordable housing and financial empowerment services to local artists that are struggling to hold on to their homes and livelihoods in San Francisco. Since 1988, SFHDC has provided affordable housing, financial empowerment, supportive services and economic development opportunities for San Francisco’s low- and moderate-income residents.

In addition to providing an unforgettable night of music and dancing, Cruise for a Cause will help launch San Francisco’s return to a culturally vibrant place where artists can afford to live and practice their crafts. 8th Annual Diamond Teeth Mary Blues Festival Aug 25-26 at Heritage Station in Huntington, West Virginia
(Huntington, WV) — In her time, “Diamond Teeth” Mary Smith McClain was called “The Queen of the Blues.” She played everywhere from The White House and all over Europe to the Cotton Club and Apollo Theatre.

She shared billings with everyone from her half-sister Bessie Smith to Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Big Mama Thornton, Ray Charles, Charlie Parker, Nat King Cole, Count Basie and Duke Ellington.

And as her last wish, Mary’s ashes were scattered on the railroad tracks behind the old B&O passenger station where the Logan native hopped her first train out of Huntington at age 13 to perform with troupes like Irwin C. Miller’s Brown Skin Models, and Rabbit Foot Minstrels, and where she created such a flash (she put eight diamonds from her bracelet into her teeth) that she influenced young musicians such as Johnny Copeland and Levon Helm, who referred to her as “The Lady with the Million Dollar Smile” in The Band song “W.S. Walcott’s Medicine Show.”

The legacy of Mary, who was considered the oldest living blues singer when she died at age 98 on April 4, 2000, gets honored on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26, as those same railroad tracks at what is now Heritage Station host the eighth annual Diamond Teeth Mary Blues Festival.
Here's a closer look at this weekend's festivities…

Since 1993, Elwood has showcased Blues and Blues-based music such as R&B, Soul, and Rock & Roll with featured guests ranging from B.B. King and Eric Clapton to Jack White and Sharon Jones. In February 2012, the program was re-branded as Elwood’s BluesMobile, with all programming remaining unchanged. In July 2017, the program was terminated and is no longer on the air.
