The Gaithersburg Book Festival continues to add more award-winning and best-selling authors to the line-up for Saturday, May 19.
~ Science Fiction/Fantasy ~
John Gregory Betancourt is a best-selling science fiction author, an award-winning mystery author, and the publisher of Wildside Press, a leading independent book publisher in Maryland.
~ Romance ~
Alisha Rai pens award-winning, sexy, contemporary romances and is the first author to have an indie-published book appear on The Washington Post’s annual Best Books list. Her books have also been named Best Books of the Year by NPR, Vulture, Entertainment Weekly, Amazon, Kirkus, Bustle and Cosmopolitan Magazine and her novels have won the RT Reviewer’s Choice Award. She spends most of her time dreaming up sexy heroes and heroines, traveling and tweeting.
~ Fiction ~
Carolyn Parkhurst is a New York Times best-selling author of four novels: "Harmony," "The Dogs of Babel," "Lost and Found" and "The Nobodies Album." She has also written a children’s book, "Cooking With Henry and Elliebelly," and her humor has appeared in the Rumpus and in The New Yorker’s Shouts and Murmurs column. Carolyn holds an M.F.A. in Fiction from American University. She lives in Washington, D.C., with her husband and their two children.

Adult Workshops Feature Mysteries, Flash Fiction and Marketing
|
Have you always wanted to write a mystery novel? Interested in exploring flash fiction? Are you an author looking to market your book? These are just a sample of what you can learn during the free writing workshops offered by area professionals at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. The 55-minute workshops will take place in the Adult/Teen (ages 16+) Workshop Tent.

Free Workshops for Children Led by Top Authors and Illustrators
|
Children of all ages can explore their creativity in writing and illustrating during a full day of free workshops at the Gaithersburg Book Festival. Designed for elementary, middle and high school students, the childrens' workshops will be led by some of today’s top authors and illustrators:
No pre-registration is required. Participants should just plan to show up at the time their preferred workshop is scheduled to start. Workshops are generally limited to 20 participants, but individual presenters can expand the workshop at their discretion.

Singer-Songwriters and Poets Take the Stage by Brew & Vine Café
|
Singer-songwriters and poets will share their talents on the Festival's Marvin Gaye Stage. While enjoying these performances, festivalgoers also will be able to enjoy gourmet snacks, coffee, and beer and wine from local breweries and wineries at the Brew & Vine Café, hosted by Dawson’s Market.

- Bilingual poetry by Martha Sanchez-Lowery, Jose Ballesteros and Maritza Rivera

- Original poetry by Miles David Moore, Michael Davis and J.D. Smith
