Artur Menezes :: KEEP PUSHING
Winner of the 2018 Gibson/Albert King Award for Best Guitarist and third-place winner in the Band Category at the 2018 International Blues Challenge, Artur Menezes is a high-octane guitarist whose passion and emotion electrify crowds. Based in Los Angeles, the Brazilian artist is releasing his fourth album, Keep Pushing.
Artur plays traditional blues with mastery and respect, augmenting his sound with modern blues and creative applications of other genres. He was a lead educator about blues in his native Brazil, where he co-founded the Casa De Blues society, gave TED talks on the music, and helped organize weekly blues concerts. He enhanced his knowledge and skill during stints living in Chicago, where he jammed with the likes of Buddy Guy, John Primer and Linsey Alexander, among others, in legendary clubs including Kingston Mines, Smokey Daddy and Katheria’s.
In Brazil, Artur stood at the top of the blues music scene, headlining festivals, sharing the stage with Joe Satriani for a crowd of 20,000, and opening Buddy Guy's South American 2012 tour in Brazil.

38th B.B. King Homecoming Festival June 2
(INDIANOLA, MS) The annual B.B. King Homecoming Festival will return this year to Fletcher Park in Indianola while work continues on an expansion of the museum that bears King's name. Featured at this year's festival on June 2nd will be Tito Jackson and former members of the B.B. King Blues Band. Jackson, well-known for his role with the Jackson 5 and The Jacksons, teamed up with former members of the band in 2017 to become their new lead singer. The band is comprised of many of King's former band members who still perform together, so event goers will likely see familiar faces.
This will be the 38th year for the event, which for most of its years featured its namesake, Mississippi Delta native B.B. King. As long as he was physically able, King returned every year since its inception in 1983. B.B. King Museum Executive Director Malika Polk-Lee said, "Although B.B. performed in sold-out venues all over the world, nothing made him happier than to be back in his hometown to play this concert for the crowd he considered as his extended family." ...Find out about the B.B. Winners & Highlights of the 39th Blues Music Awards
Photos by Jeff Fasano (MEMPHIS, TN) - The Blues Music Awards encompass a broad range of blues styles as well as recognizing both great old and new blues performances. The packed house of top blues musicians, music business professionals and devoted fans from around the globe not only got to salute the best in blues for the past year but also enjoyed a night filled with terrific live performances. Blues music continues to grow and thrive; half of the performances on the BMA stage were led by artists who are under the age of 45, with many still in their 20s and 30s. Blues Foundation President and CEO Barbara Newman reports, “We are watching the trends closely, and the blues, as a genre, is definitely on an uptick, with younger musicians being drawn to create and play this style of music and a continually growing following of the music on our social media outlets and beyond.”
