Blues & Crews on The High Seas
|
SAN DIEGO, CA) – The afternoon after a packed sendoff party in the port town San Diego, Legendary Rhythm & Blues cruisers boarded the beautiful Holland ms Eurodam and prepared to set sail for the Mexican Riviera. The fun for us starts even in line seeing blues friends and artists and the anticipation of the music and adventure filled week ahead. Not only is there a stellar “wish list” lineup of artists, but there are also silent auctions, raffles, and more plus theme nights for those that want to participate. The first night was Hometown Blues where cruisers were encouraged to sport their favorite blues society, festival or blues club gear. It’s fun to see the various locations represented. The second day we were Bluesin’ At Sea and the Returnee and Virgin parties were a huge highlight in the AM.
By nightfall the theme was Blue Night and many showed off of variety of blue colored coloring and accessories, festive wigs and even blue toenails! This night our e-Guide editor Michele Lundeen was the Jamarama Host in the Crow’s Nest. The jam kicked off with Michele (aka the Queen of Steam) on vocals, Tom Stewart on drums, and the amazing Nick Schnebelen on guitar, jammers Erik Hoyer on keys, David followed by the B.B. King Blues Allstars, the amazing Eurodam house band that is off this week. Many other jammers played including bassist Ben White from the Boneshakers Band, keyboard man Mo Beeks (onboard with Debbie Davies), Aaron Chapman and more. Tuesday we arrived in Cabo San Lucas and two of our BFG staff (Kaati and Heather) headed off to swim with the dolphins. There are blues concerts shoreside in the afternoon. Music starts back up onboard at 4:30pm and tonite’s theme is Legendary Gear. We had a fun dinner in the dining room with Billy Branch and his wife Rosa, Mitch Woods, Marion Jacobs (Little Walter's daughter) and her friend Elizabeth.

6 Great Electric Blues Guitars for Players on a Budget
|
By Casey Hopkins/Reverb.com
So you're looking to start playing the blues, but you can't afford a Burst — or a even new USA-made Stratocaster? Well, never fear — there are plenty of affordable guitars on the market that will more than do the job.
The truth of guitar buying is that you don't need to dynamite your way into a bank vault to be able to afford a quality guitar. Especially for the blues, you don't need an expensive guitar.
For one, most of the guitars that the originators started playing on were not always good guitars in and of themselves. That doesn't mean you need to be playing a vintage Sears catalog stinker to learn to play guitar like the old guys. All you really need is a guitar that is comfortable to play and gets the right sound — especially if you are new to the style or new to guitar in general.
While there are remnants of new-age Jack White-like fetishism lingering in the guitar community — mainly, the idea of needing to play older instruments that "fight you back" in order to get the blues sound — many players have moved on. ...Read entire article

The power trio of guitar, bass and drums has long been a foundational lineup in rock ‘n’ blues with groups like Cream, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and The Jimi Hendrix Experience building Hall of Fame careers and cementing the format. All the great trios built that reputation playing hundreds of shows. L.A. based Dennis Jones Band are proving that the power trio is alive and well, with the hard-working band already logging over 12,000 miles so far in 2018, not counting a European tour of four countries. In that spirit the road warriors honor their hard-won skills by releasing a new album, WE3 Live, captured at the Beaver Creek Brewery in the wild west town of Wibaux, Montana.
Jones has been well known as a blistering lead guitarist since winning the International Blues Challenge in 2004 as a member of the Zac Harmon Band. He has pushed forward his solo career winning acclaim as a songwriter, who isn’t afraid to tackle the controversial issues of today.
