All Loves Excelling, Part 4: It's the Journey that Shapes Us
|
| Historians note that the roots of Methodism in New York are in a card game that ended when Barbara Heck walked into the room, couldn’t believe what she saw, and threw the deck into the fire place. Far from a temper tantrum, however, we claim that this outburst was as much Barbara’s fervent prayer as it was evidence of her frustration.
This was Barbara’s heartfelt cry, “Is this all there is? Isn’t there more to life than this? God, show us a better way! Give us the abundance you have promised?”
Our presence here today testifies to God’s faithfulness to Barbara Heck.
The fact that we can draw a direct line from that interrupted game of cards to this moment of worship is evidence that God was faithful to hear Barbara’s prayer, light her way, and bless her with strength, passion, and a vision that left its mark on the nation, that has left its mark on the hearts of countless souls who have gone before us.
From the first sermon that Philip Embury preached for the small group that Barbara assembled to this day, for two and a half centuries Methodists have endeavored to discern and follow the abundant way Jesus sets before us. And even though we have at times wandered from that path and squandered God’s good things it is our experience, our hope, and our story that Jesus remains faithful to fill our hearts with the substance of abundant life.
It is our experience, our hope, and our story that Jesus still gives us himself.

Asbury Church honored Rob and Kareen Canora on Sunday February 10 for their years of active participation and leadership in our congregation.
In addition to our gratitude, we send them off to their new home in Virginia with our prayers for
an amazing new beginning to the next chapter in their life together.

| Altar Flowers Gifts for Sunday Worship
|
| Everyone can provide or contribute towards altar flowers for worship services at Asbury. Simply write your name and phone number in the desired date on the flower chart in Weyand Hall. The flower coordinator volunteer or the office will call you to verify any details.
To remember or honor a loved one with flowers, send an email to the office (asburyumc167@gmail.com) with the dedication you want printed in the bulletin.
Cost of flowers is $35 per week, but any donation is welcome. If you would rather bring your own flowers for the alter, this must be coordinated with the office two weeks prior.
Note, there will be no flowers on the altar during Lent (March 6 - April 20) but a loved one can still be recognized with a printed memorial.

|  On Monday, March 4, 7:00 PM The Milligan College Music Department presents “I Will Lift My Eyes” at Asbury Church.
Volunteers from Asbury can help make this event a success, so contact the church office if you’d like to participate, and most importantly, come enjoy the concert.

| Music at Asbury a Rousing Success!
|
| Asbury Summer Theatre performed a terrific program on Sunday February 3. It was attended by a full house of 200 appreciative patrons!
Along with lots of Music at Asbury regulars, we welcomed many new faces including a group of 14 residents of The Knolls assisted living facility in Valhalla. Many thanks to Lu Gmoser, Mauro Contrastano, and all of the fabulous AST performers for such a wonderful show!
And many thanks to the Music at Asbury committee and a great group of volunteers for the lovely reception.
