 Exuberant new album from jump-swing piano torchbearer Mitch Woods captures the sound, soul and spirit of New Orleans. Recorded live at the Crescent City’s famed Jazz & Heritage Festival, A Tip of the Hat to Fats showcases the masterful pianist and entertainer in his element — onstage and in command of a wealth of styles, from jump swing to blues, boogie-woogie to primal rock ’n’ roll.
Mitch Woods’ new album is far more than a tribute to the late rock ’n’ roll granddaddy Fats Domino. With a wide embrace of styles, high-flying performances, and a song list that also includes Professor Longhair, Wynonie Harris, Jackie Brenston and Woods himself, these nine tunes — each with a buoyant introduction by the singer, pianist and bandleader — perfectly spotlight his upbeat virtuosity. The album was released by Blind Pig Records via The Orchard on April 19, 2019.
“I’m an entertainer, and there’s nowhere I’d rather be than at a festival playing and singing the music I love and making people happy,” Woods relates. “Onstage is where I flourish.

King Bee & The Stingers :: MEET ME IN MEMPHIS
|
 Meet Me In Memphis, the debut album by King Bee & The Stingers, plants its roots firmly in that city's fertile musical soil but stretches across the blues landscape and beyond. From Chicago to the north, Muscle Shoals to the south, and even across the pond for some vintage British guitar finery, the songs spin tales of love, obsession, regret, redemption and more. "We started playing these songs in the spring of 2018 and started recording them shortly thereafter," explains harmonica player/singer and band founder Mark 'King Bee' Menefee. "Then we played a lot of gigs over the summer, the songs changed, got better so we went back and rerecorded them."
Menefee formed the band in 2007, but it wasn't until his daughter, Sarah, came on board as lead singer in 2014 that the group began to come into their own. They steamrolled to the semi-finals of the International Blues Challenge in 2018 and 2019, gaining fans from around the globe for their expansive take on the blues. ...Find more about this artist and release

Inaugural Huntington Beach New Blues Festival April 27
|
 (HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA) - The New Blues Festival, Southern California's premier family blues festival, heads to Huntington Beach Saturday, April 27 at the Huntington Beach Sports Complex (18100 Goldenwest St, Huntington Beach, California)! Headlining sets by top Orange County-based artists Eric Sardinas, James Harman, The Verdoros and Legendary Bluesman Guitar Shorty plus eight additional acts! But wait, there's more: a dozen great SoCal bands performing on the "Big Top Stage" both days. (Rain Or Shine). The inaugural Huntington Beach New Blues Festival showtime is 9am- 9pm (gates open 9am).
The Festival features an eclectic, Orange County-centric Main Stage lineup with eight of the twelve groups - Eric Sardinas, James Harman, The Rhythm Shakers, The Verdoros with Harliss Sweetwater, plus Warren Renfro and Brian Coakley (ex-Cadillac Tramps), The Broughams, Whiskey & The Wolves, and the Michael Mills Band - all calling the OC home.
