One of our blues fans and friend made sure to catch up with Monster Mike Welch at the 36th Annual Chicago Blues Festival to capture this sweet shot. Monster Mike Welch and the Connection with Andrew Duncanson (lead singer for the Kilborn Alley Blues Band), performed on June 9th, just 2 days prior to Mike's 40th birthday.

Tullie Brae :: REVELATION
|
|
Tullie Brae teamed with producer Jeff Jensen to take listeners on her new album from Endless Blues Records, Revelation. This is the verdict of the critics:
“A sultry blues escapade beckons from the 10 tracks that make up Brae’s new album Revelation… ...Revelation is a blues record with gospel passion that should be heard by as many people as possible.” The Rock Doctor John A. Kereiff “
This Tullie Brae comes from Louisiana; and it appears the blues don’t just run through her blood but are fixed tightly, deep in her DNA.” The Rockin’ Magpie
“Moving from the cotton fields and into domestic violence and other #itstime subjects, there are no clichés within earshot. Honing her chops in Louisiana churches, it sounds like they really do have hell hounds on their tails down there.” Midwest Records
“Steeped in church and gospel music in her home state of Louisiana, combined with her multi-instrumental skills, Brae is not faking a thing; she knows the blues… …Brae is revealing her stance as an independent confident woman immediately and it sets the stage for what follows. She’s a dynamic force.” Jim Hynes: Making a Scene ...Find more about this artist and release

Due to Flood, New Location for 34th Mississippi Valley Blues Festival July 5-6
|
(EAST MOLINE, IL) - Since 1985, the award-winning Mississippi Valley Blues Festival has been considered by many festival goers and major blues magazines to be among the top blues festivals in the country. The long-standing location of Le Claire Park in Davenport is not an option this year due to the record-breaking flood of 2019. However, the show must go on and Murphy Park at The Bend in East Moline, Illinois has many of the same elements that give the festival that decidedly downhome and non-commercial feel that lets fest-goers sit back, relax, and enjoy an incredible lineup of Blues. There will be music on two stages and Blues fans enjoying the breeze off the Mississippi River. Gates open at 4pm Friday, July 5th and noon Saturday, July 6th.
The lineup includes: Tab Benoit, Samantha Fish, North Mississippi All-Stars, Victor Wainwright, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and more. Enjoy 15 Bands, BluesKool for kids and adults, a variety of vendors, and an awesome after-fest jam on Saturday night.
The list of past and present Fest performers is a virtual Who's Who of the Blues. ...Find more about Mississippi Valley Blues Festival

Blues On The Fox Spawned from Historic Recordings
|
(AURORA, IL) - 23 years ago, a seemingly simple music festival began. It honored the historic 1930s blues recordings that took place at the Leland Hotel in Downtown Aurora. Few could have guessed those recordings would spawn a blues festival that’s brought thousands and thousands of music lovers to Aurora, and like those blues legends, decades ago, it just keeps getting better and better year after year. Celebrate the blues with the one and only Blues on the Fox.
Performers include Ana Popovic and Taj Mahal on Friday evening, and Jamiah Rogers, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Coco Montoya and Robert Randolh on Saturday. Tickets are $20 each day general admission, children 12 and under no charge.
Friday, June 14 the gates open at 6 pm at RiverEdge Park and Ana Popovic takes the stage at 7pm. This extraordinarily talented woman is a powerhouse performer who uses her guitar effortlessly. She’s and a breath of fresh of air in the blues world.
Taj Mahal Quartet follows at 9pm. A blues legend in his own right, uses traditional country blues as a starting place, then mixes a spicy concoction of...

W.C. Handy Blues and Barbecue Fest Honors a Legend June 12-15
|
(HENDERSON, KY) – The W.C. Handy Blues and Barbecue Festival, presented by the Henderson Music Preservation Society, kicked off June 12 and will run through June 15. The festival has become one of the largest free music festivals in the nation, drawing attendees from just about every state and many countries. Headliners include Coco Montoya, Ruthie Foster, Southern Hospitality, Chicago Plays The Stones, and Chubby Carrier. There are a host of other events throughout the week as well, including a Mardi Gras-style Street Strut (Sat), lectures, dance classes and much more.
The festival is a celebration of the life and legacy of Henderson resident and “Father of the Blues,” William Christopher Handy. His dedication to preserving the blues as an art form and his body of work in spiritual music inspired the Henderson Music Preservation Society, Inc. to organize a festival that would celebrate the life and musical accomplishments of W. C. Handy.
According to legend, the Alabama born composer and his band were traveling home from the postponed Chicago World’s Fair in 1892 when they ran out of money in St. Louis. ...Find complete lineup and more details
