Reggae on the Mountain has been a successful and popular family-friendly, community-driven music and cultural event for nine years and are pleased to announce their 10th Reggae on the Mountain — there’s big news. “We’re so excited to have the opportunity to expand our Reggae on the Mountain Festival to the Malibu-Calabasas King Gillette Ranch for 2019 as we celebrate our tenth anniversary,” exclaim Brooks Ellis and Amit Gilad, co-founders of the popular Reggae Festival and co-owners of event company, Label 27.

Our Beginnings

It all started with humble beginnings at a nighttime creek jam when Topanga Canyon natives Brooks Ellis and Amit Gilad first met. The two became fast friends and started a band called The Chiefs. They began throwing shows and dreamed-up an event that would come to be one of the highlights of Southern California’s reggae scene — Reggae on the Mountain. The Festival has grown over the years and now debuts at its new home in Malibu-Calabasas’ King Gillette Ranch on August 17 and 18. A portion of the proceeds will go to Woolsey Fire victims. The Boys and Girl Club of Malibu are a part of the festivities, as well.

New Venue!
King Gillette Ranch

Brooks and Amit said, “We invite you to celebrate a decade of LA’s #1 homegrown Reggae Festival at our beautiful new venue, King Gillette Ranch! In addition to two stages of your favorite Reggae artists, amazing food and vendors, ROTM is getting some major upgrades this year! Upgrades include: EXTENDED HOURS, LARGER VENUE/ INCREASED CAPACITY, CAMPING/SILENT DISCO, YOGA STAGE, WELLNESS VILLAGE and Wellness Lounge.”

Now in its tenth year, Label 27’s Reggae on the Mountain festival takes roots reggae out of the city and into the King Gillette Ranch for two days of music from international stars and heavy-hitting local and regional bands. Thousands of people are expected to attend this year’s festival which has a new venue. In addition to the Health and Wellness area and Wellness Village, there’s more space to enjoy the festivities.

Camping

Brooks and Amit add, “We are thrilled to offer camping for the first time in ROTM history! Camping is for Saturday night only. Our campsite opens for load-in at 9 am on Saturday morning. Each ticket holder must also have a camping pass to be admitted to the campsite. The Camping Pass includes our late-night Silent Dancehall and special acoustic performances. Campers may leave their cars in the overnight lot for $20 (or $15 online).”

Past Line-Ups

Over the years, ROTM has hosted big-name acts including reggae/dancehall DJ Yellowman, Julian Marley, original Black Uhuru member Don Carlos, Toots & The Maytals, Kymani Marley and the Easy Star All-Stars.

Our Philosophy

L.A.’s reggae community is inspirational. The two founders add, “What’s so great about Los Angeles and Malibu-Calabasas is the incredible fusion of Latin music and reggae coming out of the city.” Founded in 2009, Label27 produces and promotes music and art festivals in the Los Angeles area. The organization is dedicated to hosting large, all-inclusive gatherings that exhibit a culturally eclectic array of world-renowned musicians, artists, and thinkers. Label27 holds the philosophy that event creation is culture creation. Amit and Brooks conclude, “We invite one and all to join us in celebrating art, music, and love!”
