Lil A And The Allnighters :: HIP YA
|
|
Lil A and The Allnighters Hip ya is the band’s first national release and second CD. The first CD was more of a demo made for gigs. Both CDs were made in a short amount of time – 10 hours studio time and two overdubs for their first release, Special Project, which was strong enough to give them the opening slot in 2012 at the 15th Annual Doheny Blues Festival. Bubba Jackson introduced them and said to the audience that this band is what makes the Southern California blues scene so special. It took a while to put out another CD, and thinking about West Coast blues revue, a second and long-awaited CD was made. Lil A and The Allnighters’ release, Hip ya, was also recorded in one weekend in March of 2019. The band recorded seven tracks in one day and finished up the last three tracks the following day with a few overdubs and for the most part recorded live.
Two of these tracks were done simultaneously in the recording session. The first one was the late William Clarke's version of "Must Be Jelly" ... ...Find more about this artist and release

Delta Wires Delivers Goods with High Energy Harmonica & Horn-Infused Blues
|
“Can't Win for Losin',” the new single by Delta Wires, is the story of a seasoned 7-piece, "harmonica and horns," blues-rooted band that has been paying its dues while playing the blues for over 3 decades the San Francisco Bay Area and western United States. Now, a living history of the San Francisco West Coast blues, "Delta Wires" started as band leader Ernie Pinata's college project demonstrating the evolution of the blues from the cotton fields of the Mississippi Delta to Chicago, and ultimately to the West Coast. The small band Ernie put together to play examples of this evolution grew into the high-powered seven-piece band that now calls itself Delta Wires.
The band started by playing clubs in Oakland such as Esther's Orbit Room and The Continental Club. Around this same time, legendary bluesman Lowell Fulson sat-in with Delta Wires at the New Orleans House in Berkeley and Ernie Pinata sat-in with the Freddie King Band at Mandrake’s in Berkeley. These were followed by a performance with Buddy Guy and Junior Wells at Keystone Berkeley. The Delta Wires then began to open shows for these blues greats, and continued to grow as musicians and as a band.

Carolyn Gaines Pays Homage to Blues Greats
|
“Gaines’ powerful, expressive voice has hints of the languid swing of Billie Holiday” – Blues Blast
Last year, fans and critics fell in love with Carolyn Gaines’ debut album, Beware Of My Dog, this year, she continues to sing her backside off, like Ma Rainey, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Bessie Smith, and Diana Ross on her new album, The Thrill Is Gone, via Polka Dot Records out on August 2, 2019. The collection is colorful and filled with snarls, sneers, growls, and guts, all sung with a smile on the singer’s face. Gaines produced the album herself and recorded it at Leon Haywood’s (“It's Got To Be Mellow,” Guitar Slim, “Bad Mama Jama”) in L.A.’s Sunnyside Studio. The studio was on the verge of closing and she had one month to do it, so Carolyn called on some legendary musicians and family to get the job done. The Thrill Is Gone was one of the last recordings to come out of that studio.
Special guests include Ric Jaz; blues guitarist for Buddy Guy, her uncle Grady Gaines, Sr. (Little Richard, Gatemouth Brown, Sam Cooke, Jimi Hendrix), and his son Grady Gaines, Jr (Grady Gaines, Sr. band) both on saxophone, and Gino Baronelli “The Blues Don” on guitars. Other players are Charles Sherman on piano, Moe Bleek on organ, Glen Doll on harmonica and upright bass; duties were cover by Dale Atkins and Paul Kennedy.
“Lady with Soul” – Johnny Rawls

T-Bone Day Backers Aim to Revive Linden Blues Fest
|
By Aaron Brand/Texarkana Gazette (LINDEN, TX) — Linden's music-loving community would like to see the return of the T-Bone Walker Blues Fest. For several years, that festival honored a native son, whose brilliant guitar skills helped shaped the electric blues sound. To that end, T-Bone Walker Day on Saturday, Oct. 19, will feature the live blues tunes of Whitey Johnson at Music City Texas. The fundraiser will add to seed money meant to restart the festival in Linden, where it was held for eight years before moving elsewhere and then dissolving.
"This is the second year in a row for the T-Bone Walker Day," said David Hulme, the MCT executive director, noting this event has the blessing of Walker's daughter, Bernita.
The festival itself was staged in Linden from 2006 to 2013, offering a variety of blues acts both indoors and outdoors at MCT, including such musicians as Johnny Winter, Keb' Mo', Zac Harmon, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Emily Elbert, Delbert McClinton, Bobbie Oliver, Marcia Ball, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and many, many others.
"The purpose of the T-Bone Walker Day is to establish funds to go ahead and start doing the T-Bone Walker Blues Festival, which is a much bigger show than the Day," Hulme said. Regional and national acts performed at the festival.
