Jimmy Johnson :: EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE
|
|
Every Day Of Your Life, from the ageless Chicago blues and soul legend, Jimmy Johnson, aka "The Bar Room Preacher," is his first full length Delmark album since 1982's North/South. He is unbelievably 90 years young, but his playing, songwriting, and singing sounds remarkably the same as it always has – distinctive and full of deep blues and soul!
Four decades ago, Jimmy Johnson permanently established himself as a front-rank Chicago blues man with his unusually imaginative Delmark debut album, Johnson's Whacks. Now he’s come full circle: Jimmy is back on Delmark with Every Day Of Your Life, which shows that he remains a vital force into his 90s. Johnson’s fluid, slicing guitar licks dart and spark with unpredictable electricity throughout this set. His voice sores to the heavens time and again, never replacing its melismatic passion no matter the tempo.
From the funky opening original “Every Day Of Your Life,” a churning “Down In The Valley,” an exquisitely tailored revivals of the slow blues “Strange Things Happening,” to a hard-driving “I Need You So Bad,” Jimmy is never less than masterful. Witness Johnson’s personalized treatment of Fenton Robinson’s classic “Somebody Loan Me A Dime.” “My Ring,” another standout original, takes a swaying and unexpected reggae turn, and Johnson sits down behind the 88 for a solo reprise of Bobby “Blue” Bland’s uplifting “Lead Me On” to close the album in deeply moving style.

(INDIANOLA, MS) - Although we've has been closed for some time due to COVID, we'd like to encourage you to check our social media accounts for... big changes happening at the B.B. King Museum!
We are so excited about the latest expansion project which includes a 4,500-square-foot addition housing BB King's tour bus and two of his vehicles, a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow and a custom-painted Chevy El Camino.
The expansion will also complete the Memorial Garden, the site of King’s final resting place. In addition to the existing granite tablet, there will be an impressive free-standing structure with a life-size bronze of Mr. King holding his beloved Lucille, sculpted by Toby Mendez Studios.
Each Tuesday, we'll post an update of where we are in the construction process. Check our social links to follow along.
