Clay Melton :: SAY THAT YOU LOVE ME
|
|
This man shreds and his name is Clay Melton. Born in Louisiana, raised in Texas, this man's music gets your toes tapping and your head nodding in a big away. They turn the amps up and the sound is 100% original and right on time. Clay has played the major stages including the Chevrolet Main Stage at the huge Texas State Fair and the demographic he appeals to is across the board.
Clay's new single, "Say That You Love Me," was recorded by the world famous, five-time Grammy award winning Malcolm Harper of Reelsound Recordings. The normally passive, gentle soul on the street comes alive on the big stage as his inner creative abilities shift into high gear. The audience is stunned and the smiles are quick to light up the night. This is blues rock at its best and "Say That You Love Me" fits the bill perfect.
For this special recording session Watchtower Entertainment retained the Big Room at the famous White Oak Music Hall in Houston Texas. Early in the morning the trucks arrived and the sound and video equipment was unloaded and set up with the audio control center behind the stage and the multiple camera personnel positioning themselves in the audience area. Approximately five hours later the sound and visual checks were completed and Clay and band recorded “Say That You Love Me.”
In next Thursday’s edition, we will share where you can watch the official video and experience this special Louisiana/Texas sound.

Patricia Wilson Aden named new President & CEO of The Blues Foundation
|
(MEMPHIS, TN) — The Blues Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Patricia Wilson Aden as its next President & CEO. Aden brings more than three decades of non-profit management experience to the Foundation, with a specialization in the preservation and celebration of African American cultural resources. Her most recent experience as President & CEO of the African American Museum in Philadelphia and her earlier role as Executive Director of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation make her uniquely qualified to lead The Blues Foundation and its Blues Hall of Fame. Aden stated, “I am genuinely excited to join The Blues Foundation and the Blues community in celebrating the Blues and the artists who have made it America’s original musical genre.”
Aden will join the Foundation’s staff on October 1, 2020.
Aden succeeds Barbara Newman, who will begin her retirement September 30th. Under Newman’s leadership, The Blues Foundation saw marked growth in engagement and reach in all facets of the organization’s operations. She embraced technology to offer greater access to and programming of major Blues Foundation events, including The International Blues Challenge and Blues Music Awards, forged new industry alliances, and amplified awareness of organizational activities in fulfilling The Blues Foundation’s mission to preserve, celebrate, and expand awareness of the Blues genre. Most recently, she led the charge to develop a relief fund to provide financial support for basic living necessities to Blues musicians whose income streams have evaporated in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the first of April, that fund has raised over $250,000 and assisted close to 250 musicians. ...Read in full

Mississippi legends inducted into The MAX Hall of Fame
|
(MERIDIAN, MS) - On September 3, five Mississippi artists were inducted into The MAX Hall of Fame [Mississippi's Arts + Entertainment Experience] in downtown Meridian.
Due to COVID-19 guidelines, the induction took place at a private ceremony on the stage of the Mississippi State University Riley Center’s historic theater.
The legendary artists [Bo Diddley, John Lee Hooker, Jerry Lee Lewis, poet/educator Margaret Walker and Tammy Wynette] will also receive Walk of Fame stars along two blocks of sidewalks between the Riley Center and The MAX, directly in front of the Hall of Fame on Front Street.
Bo Diddley: As a guitarist, singer and songwriter, Diddley had a huge influence on popular music, including rap, hip-hop and R&B. His 1955 recordings of “I’m a Man” and “Bo Diddley” laid the foundation for the development of nearly all subsequent rock-n-roll styles. The famous “Bo Diddley beat” served artists ranging from Carlos Santana and Jimi Hendrix to the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.
John Lee Hooker: Hooker was a blues singer, songwriter and guitarist from Clarksdale, Mississippi. The son of a Delta sharecropper, Hooker developed a unique style of guitar playing prominently featured in some of his best known songs such as “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer” and “Boom Boom.” Hooker is a five-time Grammy Award winner and an inductee in both the Blues Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000.
Jerry Lee Lewis: Rock’s first great wild man, Jerry Lee Lewis, is now the last surviving member of the celebrated musicians who founded rock-n-roll in the 1950s. ...Read entire story by Italiana Anderson/Mississippi Clarion Ledger

Thoughts about venues opening... share yours!
|
Hey Blues Fans!! We see some blues music venues are opening up around the country. Albeit, opening then closing then opening, etc.
Here's a note from a music fan:
"Hey, here in Western North Carolina we have been lucky to be able to see live music. In Asheville, The Guitar Bar (which is closed) have been putting on shows on their loading dock each weekend. Very cool vibe, a BYOB situation, socially distanced, mask wearing crowd. Donations are collected to pay both the bands and the wonderful folks that run the Guitar Bar. Thanks,
The Bluzmonkey"
Editor Note: The Craggy Blues Band plays at the Guitar Bar this Sat Sept 19.
We're interested in your thoughts:
- Have you attended any shows and where?
- If so, how was the vibe (i.e. joyous, awkward, crowded, etc.)
- If not, when will you feel comfortable attending?
- If you're a musician, have you performed live for an audience recently?
- If so, how was the vibe and attendance?
Email me 100 words MAX and make sure to put "VENUES OPENING" in subject line (so it doesn't get lost in my email). Tell us where in the world you're located. Feel free to send me a pic of your favorite blues music experience if you like, too.
Wishing you all good health and peace,
Michele

Jeremiah reveals that the work is a concept album with all the songs related to his time in quarantine during the Covid-19 pandemic.
