APRIL 2021
CAT HEAD UPDATE NEWSLETTER
"All the blues that's fit to print."
Got mask? Then, Juke Joint Festival returns to the crossroads of Clarksdale, Mississippi!

A year ago this week, Clarksdale's Juke Joint Festival was among the world's first to stage a "pandemic edition" by taking the blues online for a 9-hour, 27 act Virtual JJF Celebration (thanks to Live From Clarksdale, Visit Clarksdale and several key sponsors). This year, LFC will still stream some special events, but JJF itself is a "pandemic-ly modified" in-person spectacular.

Things are looking up and our Covid numbers are down here. Let's please keep it that way during this festival week by masking up around others, socially distancing at all times and hand sanitizing often. Feeling sick? Please sit this one out. Over 60% of Americans still haven't gotten their first vaccine shot, and only 20% of our Clarksdale-Coahoma County neighbors are fully vaccinated. Thanks for your patience and thoughtfulness.

By the way, there will be vaccine shots available at Juke Joint Festival on Saturday.

Okay, I'm super busy with festival planning, my Cat Head store, etc., so this month's CAT HEAD UPDATE newsletter will be a quick one, y'all!

RENT Ted Reed's "The Blues Trail Revisited" film and LISTEN to his new  podcast...
THE MOVIE:

When Grammy- and Emmy-award winning documentary filmmaker Ted Reed was moving his office, he uncovered his 16mm black and white film “Thinking Out Loud”, shot in 1971. Filmed with his friend Tim Treadway, the two traveled from Boston through Memphis and Clarksdale to find and record some of the last living blues legends. “Thinking Out Loud” was seen at festivals, and then stored away. Fast forward fifty years has led to the compilation of then and now in his new film, “The Blues Trail Revisited.”

Ted is beyond excited to share that his film is now available to rent via www.bluestrailrevisited.com.

"A story of blues friends, fans and follow through, Ted Reed's remarkable BLUES TRAIL REVISITED spans 50 years—tying together past Southern blues traditions with those of the present day and perhaps even the future."
- Roger Stolle, Cat Head

THE PODCAST:

From Ted Reed: "We will be launching our bi-monthly podcast in partnership with Visit Clarksdale Tourism this week. To get things off to a running start, we're releasing a podcast a night starting this Thursday at 8pm CDT when the 2021 Juke Joint Festival kicks off in Clarksdale, MS. Here's our promo so you can get an idea of what we're going to be doing this week and the weeks coming up."
