Wilburt Lee Reliford :: SEEMS LIKE A DREAM
|
|
"Seems Like A Dream"
Website
In 1989, when Dutch folklorist Ko de Korte taped Wilburt Lee Reliford play a solo harmonica session that became the core of Seems Like a Dream (June 25 / Big Legal Mess), he could not have imagined that half of those tracks would be fleshed out with an ace Memphis studio band.
Some 32 years after the initial recordings and 28 after Reliford’s death, co-producers Bruce Watson (R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough) and Will Sexton (Luther Dickinson) built a band behind Reliford with Sexton on guitar, alongside, George Sluppick on drums (Chris Robinson, JJ Grey & Mofro), Mark Edgar Stuart on bass and guitar (Alvin Youngblood Hart), and Rick Steff on piano (James Blood Ulmer, Luther Allison). They also chose about half of the songs to remain raw and sparse as they were on that day in 1989.
A staple of the North Mississippi blues scene, Reliford was born in 1924 near Rossville, TN, the hometown of Mississippi Fred McDowell, but he grew up near Chulahoma, Mississippi, the location of Junior Kimbrough’s infamous juke joint. He first picked up harmonica (and guitar, though his guitar is not heard on this release) around the age of 11, soon after he went blind due to a medical accident. He performed at the Memphis Music and Heritage Festival.

Covid & Tix Updates for Redwood Coast Music Festival
Sept 30-Oct 3
|
(EUREKA, CA) - First, we want to say that as much as we enjoy planning a fantastic music festival and throwing a great party, we value everyone’s health and safety even more. Every decision we make takes that into consideration.
Please Plan Ahead - Limited, Advance tickets available…
At this time the State of California has mandated that only advance ticket sales are allowed so plan ahead and buy in advance. It’s likely that one requirement will be reduced capacity and, at this time, the State of CA mandates that we monitor attendance. Ticket sales will be suspended when we reach limits and continually evaluated as conditions change.
Recent announcements by state agencies and conversations with the County of Humboldt and City of Eureka are encouraging and giving us hope that we can host Redwood Coast Music Festival Sept 30-Oct 3, 2021. Our blues-roots lineup includes Curtis Salgado, Duke Robillard, Jontavious Willis, Sugar Ray & The Bluetones, Carl Sonny Leyland, and Michael Doucét, among dozens more at 7 different venues.
We will be following their guidance and we know that conditions will continue to change - hopefully for the better. We will continue to evolve our planning to reflect current conditions with your safety as our top priority.
One thing is for sure, Redwood Coast Music Festival can happen if conditions continue to improve and if we follow a number of safety protocols, and we will ask patrons to do the same. In the meantime, stay safe, get vaccinated, follow the safety guidelines and we hope to see you Sept. 30-Oct 3 for four days of live music and dance.
