Blues Brothers Docuseries in the works
|
Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi's estate are working on a new docuseries about The Blues Brothers classic movie. The Blues Brothers began as a series of Saturday Night Live sketches, which were then adapted into the 1980 film featuring Belushi and Aykroyd as Jake and Elwood Blues. The plot follows Jake and Elwood, who only have a matter of days to reunite their R&B band to save the Catholic home that raised them. The movie, directed by John Landis, also features Carrie Fisher, John Candy, and Frank Oz, among many other actors and cameos, along with music icons such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Pinetop Perkins, Cab Calloway, Chaka Kahn, Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn, Matt “Guitar” Murphy, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Calvin “Fuzz” Jones, and Ray Charles.
The new, yet to be titled docuseries, will include unseen footage and dive deep into the origins, development, music, legacy of the characters and actors behind them, friendships and production of The Blues Brothers, with significant input from Aykroyd and the estate of the late John Belushi.
“Much will be revealed that even I, as one of the originators, might not have been aware of,” said Ackroyd. “In the end, it will be all about the artists and their music.” The documentary will “frame the Blues Brothers phenomenon as a springboard to explore the greater world of blues, rhythm and blues and gospel,” said Belushi-Pisano. The series will also tackle “the sensitivities of race in the music industry and reveals the mindsets, intentions and follow-through of the creators.”

Music Maker Tends the Roots of American Music...
|
...That's what they've done for more than a quarter century. Music Maker programs serve the most vulnerable artists – those marginalized by age, poverty, race, gender, etc. – because these are the artists least likely to have the resources to share their musical messages with the world. Music Maker hopes that their new website gives those artists the showcase they deserve.
On the site, you can easily find colorful stories of individual artists we've served over the years, you can take journeys of discovery through different styles of music, and you can learn everything you need to know about Music Maker. And they'll be adding new content all the time.

Just in case:
National Author's Day is Nov 1st. Regardless of what time period or where they’re from, authors have always had the ability to teach, entertain, and move us.
So what is an author? Well, historically and permanently, it’s someone who uses their words to move their followers.
Well, I'm going to take the liberty to say let's not only salute authors of blues books that are historical, educational and fictional, but also songs.... which certainly move us as well.
