WMCC to host North Country school counselors & SAPs
|
White Mountains Community College in Berlin has partnered with NCES to host the school counselors and Student Assistance Program staff from the region on Monday, January 10, 2022. In addition to a tour of the labs at the facility, the day will include information on dual enrollment and concurrent opportunities, financial aid and helping students navigate paying for college, what the college offers for student support services, and learning about career pathways and new curriculum. The college will share information on outreach opportunities for elementary grades to learn about career pathways and programs, as well as the youth camps available at WMCC.
NCES is convening school counselors and SAPs monthly for professional development related to social and emotional learning. A group of about 25 are participating in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Adolescents. With a pause in that training for the month of January, said NCES Executive Director Lori Langlois, this will be a good time to host the group at WMCC.
In addition to the tour and learning more WMCC programs, NCES is sponsoring a professional development opportunity to learn about inclusive practices and supports for gender nonconforming students. That portion of the day will be facilitated by Shannon Brown.
Participants will be treated to breakfast and lunch. This opportunity is free for counselors from SAUs 3, 7, 9, 20, 23, 35, 36, 58, 68, 77, & 84. To register, visit ncedservices.org/wmcc.
