HAPPY THANKSGIVING from our house to yours!
|
Throughout the year we do stop and reflect on how thankful we are... sometimes it's when we've accomplished a feat, other times... when we realize our mortality. These last few years especially have been a challenge and an eye-opener on many levels, to say the least. But even when it seems all may be lost, we can still find peace in the small moments. We must and we do. We know we should take nothing for granted especially now. This year we still reflect on the tiniest of life's details and find we are still grateful. Now, at Thanksgiving time, we reflect even more on family and friends... here ...and gone. The thought of the warmth and familiarity of them at the holiday time of year can override chaos. And even though they may not within reach, we remain thankful.
I am personally thankful that I can express myself through my voice, my art and my pen and those that relate to that language. I'm thankful I can still find my mental strength when push comes to shove. I'm currently finding my physical strength as well at the tail-end of my own battle with Covid... the thing I dreaded most, but I am thankful that I am strong and for each day that continues on.
From myself and all the staff at BFG, we want you to remind you, not just today, but every day, that we very thankful and grateful for YOU, our readers, blues lovers, and blues friends. Wishing you and yours a peaceful and healthy holiday.
Your e-Guide Editor,
Michele Lundeen

Here’s Dennis Devuyst who we ran across while performing blues and classics at an assisted living facility. Dennis says he loves music, especially blues and likes to sing for his resident neighbors. He was excited to get his Blues Festival Guide magazine and to sing along with myself and my guitarist.

Larry McCray to fire up benefit concert for blues icons’ grave headstones Nov 27
|
(WHITEHALL, MI) - When West Michigan blues fan Steve Salter learned to his dismay that iconic blues pianist Otis Spann – who died in his 40s in 1970 – was buried in an unmarked grave, it sparked an unusual and tireless mission to commemorate influential musicians who often passed away impoverished and overlooked.
Salter, of Whitehall, launched The Killer Blues Headstone Project, which has raised about $89,000 and purchased 138 headstones for late blues musicians buried in cemeteries in 16 states across the country.
Adding to headstones for blues greats such as Walter Davis, Luther Tucker and Clarence “Pine Top” Smith, the project this year has placed markers on graves for Eddie Taylor Jr. (Chicago), Joe Willie Wilkins (Memphis), Bumble Bee Slim (Georgia) and Big George Brock (St. Louis), among others.
Now, Salter has turned his attention to what he’s calling “our biggest show yet”: At 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 27), Michigan’s own legendary blue guitarist Larry McCray & The Jon Archambault Band will perform at The Playhouse at White Lake in Whitehall, with The North Grove Killers opening the show. Tickets for the fundraiser for the Killer Blues Headstone Project are $25 in advance, available online here. Tickets will be $30 at the door the day of the show, and $50 VIP seats also are available.
In addition, the concert will be live-streamed online so fans can watch it from home. Tickets, $15, for the live-stream are available here. …Read more here
