Math Tutor Sought for Adult Learners
NCES operates the Coös Adult Education and Literacy (Coös AEL) program and is seeking a math tutor for adult learners for up to 6 hours per week.

The tutoring can be conducted from the Berlin AEL office or remotely. This program serves all of Coos. Even if the tutor holds office hours in-person, there is a good chance that the adult students will be remote. Hence a willingness to provide tutoring online is necessary. There is a lot of flexibility in how/when the 6 hours are scheduled and can include 1 hour of planning/prep each week. Typically this will be one-on-one tutoring or for very small groups of students.

This program serves adults, 18 and up. While there could be instruction in basic math, the primary need is for instruction in higher-level math to prepare students to successfully complete the HiSET exam. The HiSET Mathematics test is a 90-minute test that covers basic mathematics topics, quantitative problem-solving, and algebraic questions.

The rate of pay $27/hour. The position would be from January to June 2022.

Potential candidates should send an email/letter of interest and resume to Gayle Theberge, Coos AEL Program Director, at gthebergecoosals@myfairpoint.net by January 5th.

New topics include vaping, infographics, reality TV, and community advocacy. During this PD session, educators will explore the intersection of media literacy and health through discussions, media analysis, and hands-on examples of lesson activities. You will get to see sample lessons as well as examples of student responses to media-literacy activities. Date: Wednesday, February 16, 2022 from 1:00 to 4:30
Location: NCES, Gorham, NH
Recommended for 5th-8th grade educators

In this workshop, we will explore the challenges that media has created for middle-school students as well as the opportunities that it ignites. We will also share our experiences with implementing these tools in schools and ideas that educators and students have shared with us along the way.
