For the 2023 school year, NCES is working to bring the Miss Kendra Trauma-Informed SEL program to interested classrooms. The 30 minute per week sessions, 38 lessons over the course of the year, would be taught/facilitated by staff from the Center for Trauma-Responsive Practice Change.
In order to seek adequate grant support, NCES needs to assess the number of schools and classrooms interested in participating. You are invited to learn more about the program and what implementation would look like during this overview presented by Cassie Yackley, PsyD, from the Center of Trauma-Responsive Practice Change.
About Miss Kendra Trauma-Informed SEL
Students spend time learning the fundamentals of Miss Kendra:
- norms of child safety
- naming their feelings
- how to tell an everyday worry from a Miss Kendra worry
Miss Kendra Time is a time for these young learners to share the feelings in their hearts and the worries on their minds, no matter how big or small.
Miss Kendra schools have fewer classroom disruptions, more time dedicated to learning, and improved school climate. The program creates safe spaces for students to explore their worries and traumas that interfere with their ability to learn and focus on their schoolwork.
