MVBS Fundraiser Feb 9 with Billy Branch
|
(DAVENPORT, IA) - Chicago-blues singer and harmonica maestro Billy Branch will perform at Davenport's Village Theatre (2113 East 11th St., Davenport, Iowa) on February 9 in a fundraising concert for the Mississippi Valley Blues Society (MVBS).
Branch is a three-time Grammy Award nominee, Emmy Award winner, and the recipient of multiple Blues Music Awards and Living Blues Critics' Awards, a retired Grammy governor, and recipient of two BMA Keeping the Blues Alive Awards for his Blues in Schools programs. In addition, he is on the Board of Directors of both the Blues Foundation and the Little Walter Foundation. Branch is most proud of being a 2020 inductee into the International Blues Foundation’s Blues Hall of Fame Museum in Memphis.
Billy Branch has been called the Ambassador of the Chicago Blues because he has spent nearly fifty years representing the Blues legacy around the world. He is one of the last living bluesmen to have been mentored by the original blues giants. The critically lauded musician is also serving as the resident artist for the first 2022 MVBS Blues in the Schools program.
Admission to this all-ages 8-9:30pm fundraising event is $8–$15. More information and tickets are available at the Mississippi Valley Blues Society website.

Toronto’s Winterfolk Blues and Roots Festival Feb 18-20
|
(TORONTO, CANADA) - Celebrating its landmark 20th year presenting the finest sounds around, Toronto’s Winterfolk Blues and Roots Festival added award-winning guitarist and singer/songwriter Sue Foley to this year’s event lineup online February 18th-20th. Fresh off the release of her latest album, 2021’s Pinky’s Blues, Sue Foley will close-out the three-day event, rounding out the highly acclaimed roster that includes the best and award-winning musicians across blues, rock, jazz, folk, roots, and more.
Registration to watch the expansive list of 18+ concerts is free, and optional donations collected to assist with festival expenses, the main one being remuneration for artists. In other words, donations are welcomed. Winterfolk Blues and Roots Festival was founded by Festival Director Brian Gladstone, and is a division of The Association of Artists for a Better World, a registered non-profit organization.
When a festival has been running for 20 consecutive years — in the middle of Canadian winters, no less — rest assured, organizers have seen it all. Last year, Gladstone and his team added ‘pivoting to online due to a pandemic’ to that list and, in 2022, those conditions have continued. When they started planning for this year’s fête, venues in Ontario were operating at full capacity; in the wake of Omicron’s rapid spread, that lowered to 50%, before recently dropping off altogether.
Those planning to tune in will need to register online for free access here.
