Delta Blues Festival Benefit Concert March 5
|
(ANTIOCH, CA) – The annual Delta Blues Festival Benefit Concert will be held Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at 7pm. Appearing will be multi award-winning Blues artists Chris Cain and Sue Foley and intends to be the best night of blues this town has ever seen. Past shows have had great responses from attendees, and many have asked for the same thing: “Let the performers play longer… with less acts.” We’ve listened and have turned up the heat. Our 2022 show will feature these two international blues stars playing for over an hour each. Chris Cain has recently been nominated for a 2022 Blues Music Award (BMA) for “Contemporary Male Blues Artist” and “Blues Guitarist Of The Year.” Sue Foley has been nominated for three 2022 BMA’s including, “Album of the Year,” “Traditional Blues Album,” and “Traditional Blues Female Artist.”
In 2010, El Campanil Theatre in Antioch, California, presented the first Delta Blues Benefit Concert, and ever since, the Benefit Concert has evolved to be an annual event supporting music in our community. To date, the group has awarded over $42,000 in grants and scholarships to benefit musical education. This year’s benefit concert is no different; they will be supporting music in the community, and, of course, be giving away scholarships to young musicians for college. What better way to help support musical education in our community than by attending a great evening of international blues performers in your home town?

Rivers of Rhythm: Music of Africa, Spirituals & Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, and Hip Hop
|
Editor’s Note: In Rivers of Rhythm, a six-part series presented by American Songwriter and Renasant Bank, the program takes a deep look into the Music of Africa, Spirituals & Gospel, Blues, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues and Hip Hop. The series is now on episode 5, Rhythm & Blues. The final episode, Hip Hop, will premiere on March 8. The following is an excerpt of the intro on Series 3, The Blues, from American Songwriter.
“The seeds of the blues were buried long ago, planted in the music of Africa, but harvested in the fields of the deep south,” says the narrator in the video. “It was the pain, the sorrow, the struggles through and after slavery that gave the blues the simple structure in this emotionally complex sound.”
Rivers of Rhythm—highlighting the work of The National Museum of African American Music—explores and celebrates the music genres and styles created, influenced, and inspired by African Americans.
In episode 3, titled The Blues, artists, alongside leading historians and museum curators, take a look at the history of the blues, which takes place after emancipation, from the late 19th to the early 20th century.
“You don’t have American music without the blues,” says Katie Rainge-Briggs of the National Museum of African American Music. “The blues music opened the door and enabled an artist to tell their story on a popular stage. Rather than limiting their emotion to their home, to their church, now on stage, there can be an emotional camaraderie.”
